  1. Check both ends of both cables; power and video.
  2. Move the cables, one at a time, if moving a cable turns it on and off, replace the cable.
  3. Look closely at the connections on the monitor, the computer and the wall outlet... are they loose or damaged?
  4. If this doesn't fix it, try the monitor on a friends computer. If it does the same thing, you need a new monitor
  5. If it works fine on the other computer, borrow a friends monitor and try it on your computer. If it cycles on and off, take the computer to a repair shop. If it works fine, take your computer and monitor to the shop.
  6. Always try the free things first, the cheap things second, and the shop last!

I turned on my computer today and the icons and browser pages are bigger than normal. Can anyone tell me why this happened and how to fix?

Computers not always predictable. Meanwhile, you can decrease the size of the icons. Look in your OS help section for icon size and the answer will be there.

Or perhaps you inadvertently changed the screen resolution. Right click on screen and go into properties and look for display resolution settings.

I have a gateway gt5622 to will not boot beyond the screen that says starting windows. I have tried updating the bios, changing the power supply, changing the memory, disabling usb in bios, and nothing...

If your system is stuck on the Windows Start Screen Screen you can try to boot using Safe Mode by restarting the computer and tapping F8 while it is booting. When it successfully load the Operating system you can disable some startups on the machine. Click on Start then click on RUN, type MSCONFIG on the dialog box located on the lower left of your screen. Then Click on the SERVICES tab. Put a tick on Hide All Microsoft Services then click on Disable All button. Disabling some startup software may fixed the problem. Restart the computer see if it will works. If not then you need to Reinstall the Operating System to your machine.

Thanks for using Fixya.

My computer boots up then instead of going to the user log in screen it goes to a black screen and stays like that please help the computer isnt even a year old

The Windows kernel - the core program of it - is corrupted or missing. This cannot be fixed, you will have to reinstall using the recovery disks.
This is almost always caused by viruses, after you reinstall use another antivirus, the one you had until now is useless.

3 inches of black on both sides of my monitor

I have seen this when using HDMI cables from the computer side.. The TV has a resolution that is not always full screen with TV shows. There is a setting that allows you to "zoom". My TV has 4 settings: normal, stretch and crop, stretch left and right, stretch and pinch (shrug).

Screen goes black while playing Demigod/Titan Quest

If the pc plays on some of the games without going blank, I will suggest two things for to do. Adjust the screen resolution perhaps a little higher than what you have now. Finally, upgrade your RAM capacity. However, reverting to your former card can do the magic as I can sense that the new card may be running higher than what PCI socket on your mainboard can carry. It may be incompatible and only managing for now. Good luck
