I've found the problem. Ironically someone had the exact same problem. A zipper foot had gotten stuck between the drum and the felt and unbalanced the drum causing the clunking. Found the zipper took it out and no more noise.

Hello, First disconnect the AC power, and if unit is gas close the gas valve. Next research on line for service manual or open the housing to visual check the drum rollers and their support. If bad the manual or local parts supply should ID the parts and cost. Best wishes.

My Kenmore elite 110.22992100 has started making a loud clunking noise switching from wash cycle to rinse. It is also shaking more than normal is this an easy fix or is major work needed? Thoughts?

Vibration and clunking can be caused by a number of things,

In this case though, first check the bearings at the back of the drum, if the drum is wet and theres a grinding noise major fix.

check the concrete blocks are tightly bolted on and there are no broken springs on the machine.
Check the belt and motor tensioning.

Making clunking noise, lost a zipper pull

check the inside of the drum, if you don't locate it, you need to open the machine and check along the belt path, and idler pulley,, I don't think a zipper pull would cause a thump so it may have lodged in something else that would cause this sound

CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SPINNING SAME SOUND WHEN TURNING MANUALLY

Hello,

Have you tried turning the drum with belt removed to see if sound is from drum or motor. If you cant get at belt easy thru. top ( make sure power is off) then you will have to split the casing which will give you a great view of all the moving parts to see if any loose parts. It may be that the bearings have gone so badly that it is clunking as it turns.Normal bearing failure noise is a rumbling.
Remove 2 screws at rear underside of top lid and remove. On top middle either side by springs remove the 4 screws holding back panel, down below at rear there is normally 2 or 3 screws on corners of panel, now go to side of panel bottom middle by seam and remove round white plastic covers put small screwdriver in hole and pull out there is a screw behind each (8mm small socket). Now by water inlet valves prise out white plastic housing with valves still inside now put screw driver in spli on side panel either side and work it back you will have to hold down drain hose to clear panel, once off you can inspect for any damage or loose parts, check drum pulley is not loose or worn, check motor also concrete balance weights one on back top of drum casing and one at front around door seal, sometimes these come loose. To refit casing it is a reverse of removal.
Hopefully this will be helpful.

Good Luck.

My car makes clunking noises from the engine area but when the clutch is down at a stand still theirs no clunking just the engine ticking over. the battery light is lit staticly on the display too.

the battery light being on is not normal, this could be what is causing the clunking noises, whenever my battery light comes on i try and race home as fast as i can so i wont be stranded, because i know im running on pure battery power and it will only run for another 15 miles before she dies completely. Before she dies the car is making all kind of noises, clunking backfiring., so your alternator is probably going bad or your serpentine belt is very loose.

My washing machine makes a cluck sound at the end

Hi,

Not knowing what model machine you have, I would hazard a guess and say it is your break solenoid or break arm or a variation on a break system.

After the spin cycle, the break solenoid or motor engages a break arm to stop and lock your spinning drum. The loud clunk is normal especially in Simpson and Hoover top load machines.

You can check this by putting the machine on a spin cycle. Once the machine gets up to speed, open the door. You will hear the clunck and then the drum stops abrublty.

If that is the case, it is normal and no need to worry about it. However, it you did not have the noise before, then best to get it checked out by a repairer.

Regards
Ash

Back brakes on 2006 Corolla make a clunking noise when I put my foot on the brake pedal.

It sounds like the rear shoes have come loose inside the drum. If this has happened it could cause serious damage and cause your brakes to lock up on you causing a wreck.

Drum in Frigidaire GLTF1240AS0 has loud clunking noise

The rear drum support must be replaced. The supporting ball has eaten into the support cup.The belt will have stretched and must be replaced also. You can do the job yourself.

Drum came loose on Fridgedaire front loader on final spin cycle.

What was the point of posting this on the site?

The drum has broken loose from the support plate at the rear

You need a new drum and a support plate plus probably an outer shell.

A complaint to the manufacturer may get you a deal on a replacement
