Question about Computers & Internet
Once the MP3 player turns on only when connected to the computer, but won't turn on if it's not connected, then you only have two possible cause of the problem.
1. Defective Battery
2. Loose wire connection
If you have a multi tester (analog or digital), you can try to take the battery out, and see if the battery can still hold a charge.
Check also the wires, and I'm sure that one of the wires got cut off.
However, if your player is still under the warranty, contact the manufacturer and have them repair it for you.
Thank you and good luck!

You should change the battery or charge it if it is chargeable. (If it is battery operated.)
Because you say that it works when you plug it in the PC. So it charges from PC, that's why it is working.
Hope this helps.
If not, waiting your comments with the name and model of your MP3 player.
