When I switch the machine on it knocks itself off and trips the switch on the electric box. Could you please advice me as to what the problem is and how I can solve it.
Thank You
yes it is on its own circuit. Everything else i plug in on the same socket is fine apart from the washing machine. When I switch the power on the machine it cuts out and trips the switch on the main electric box.

Check the heating element out I had similar problem but only on wash when heater was reqd. Will the machine go thro a spin cycle? If it will then the heater may be at fault

In your browser bar type in:
HOTPOINT USER MANUAL and follow the links.
You will find what you are looking for.Although it says Hotpoint, just
type your model in the box, and it will come on screen, then you can
save it, or download it to your printer
Plz rate my solution.
Remove back from machine, dissconnect motor plug from motor, then turn machine on, if electric trips then you know motor is ok so place plug back into it, then do pump, and so on untile something is disconnected and fuse wont trip. Make sure you do not have machine connected to power supply while removing wires, also that wires do not come into contact with anything when disconnected. And dont remove Any earth wires

the 3 things i would consider would be the interlock,on/off switch or timer, Just because the door clicks it does'nt mean the interlock is'nt faulty there is no test you can do to prove it apart from trying a new one. also the on/off switch can melt remove facia to gain access to the switch it will help if you also loosen the timer, which will also allow you to see if the timer has shorted where the black connector block on the top of the unit goes if there is a track blown you will need to change interlock aswell. GOOD LUCK
THEY ARE BOTH LIVE WIRES THE RED/GREEN ONE GOES NEAREST TO THE DOOR SEAL, AND AS I SAID THEY ARE BOTH LIVE SO PUTTING EITHER WAY WOULD NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM APART FROM ONE WAY THE MACHINE WOULD NOT WORK. I ASSUME THE BLACK WIRE IS ON THE MIDDLE CONNECTION, THIS IS NEUTRAL
I found the manual on a website which I didn't note down, but which was very useful as it had almost every washing machine manual on the planet! Now I know that the energay saving and deep rinsing buttons are activated by pressing them in. Thanks anyhow for your attempt to help!
