What you need to do is take the cartridge and unscrew it and change the battery. Here is a guide to replace it: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-replace-the-battery-in-a-pokemon-goldsilve/ If you aren't good with soldering, I would recommend just buy a new Pokemon Crystal game.

if the cartridge it self does no match the color of the game title then you are indeed playing a "fake" emerald.
if that is not the case I would recommend changing that internal battery of the game. it's a very simple process that can be completed by simply removing the back of the cartridge and installing a new battery. hope this helps

My save files continusly corrupted and the game also says the time is not set after I turn the Game Boy Advance off then back on. I'm also wondering if it has to be a Game Boy Color.

The internal battery inside the game cartridge has died and needs to be replaced. This watch battery is what keeps track of the save file and the time in the game. Remove the screw on the back of the game cart (you may need a special screwdriver) and pop off the cover, revealing the main PBC (PCB?) circut board of the cartridge. You're doing game surgery, so be careful with doing this. Bend the contacts keeping the battery in place and remove the battery. If you accidently broke off the contacts, you'll need to solder some more back on. Anyway, replace the old battery with a CR 2032 battery (common watch battery sold at retailers), or a CR 2025 will work as well. Just make sure the contacts are touching the right sides of the battery. I believe the default would be negative side down. It's recommended that you tape the battery down to keep it from coming loose. After all that is done, put the cartridge casing back on, screw the screw back into place, and insert it into your Game Boy. It really does not matter wether you're using Game Boy Color, Advance, Pocket, or any model. Your game should be able to keep the time and its save.

Save file always becomes corrupt

There is a small battery inside the carriage, replacing this will give the game the ability to keep saved data once again. *Note* I do not suggest doing this unless your experienced doing such thing. you can damage the board of the game if not careful.

Well its because the battery inside of the gamepack that allows you to save the game data is dead now or its a bad gamepack then.
Can your Pokemon game still hold a save?

If your Game Boy game is no longer able to hold a save, yet can still be played fine, that most likely means that the battery in the game cartridge has run out of energy.

You can easily replace this battery, restoring the cartridge's ability to store save data. This replacement can be performed for much less than the cost of buying a new game. You just need to purchase a new battery.

**Basic soldering skills required**

Materials:
Soldering iron
New 3 Volt Coin Cell Battery - CR2025 (165mAh) or CR2032 (220mAh)
Adhesive tape
Fine tipped hemostat or needle-nosed pliers

Flip over your cartridge.

Locate Screw

Using a hemostat, needle-nosed pliers, or anything else that you can grip it with, unscrew this little screw by turning counter-clockwise.

Once the screw has been removed, turn cartridge over, slide the front cover downwards, and pull it off.

Now you can see the circuit board, and the battery that allows one of the chips to retain the game save data.

You can see that both Pokemon Red and Silver cartridges look very similar, except that the Silver circuit board has a crystal oscillator in the upper left-hand corner to control the passing of time in the game.

My Pokemon Silver whenever I hit continue, All it says is "Save File Is Corrupted!" What can I do insstead of restaring it??????/

Pokemon Silver and Gold have a tendency to corrupt itself after too many uses of glitches. Once the game is corrupted you won't be able to save at all anymore.

What kind of old version games can you play on game...

Dan12:

Your Game Boy Color Pink can play any games that are for:

Game Boy Original (Gray Cartridges size of your palm)
Game Boy Color 1 (Black Cartridges same as the Gray)
Game Boy Color 2 (Translucent Game Cartridges with a hump on top of the cartridge)

The games mentioned above are the ones that are able to play on Game Boy Color units.

Some games you might like are:

Mario Games
Wario Games
Pokemon Games
Donkey Kong Games
Kirby Games
Yoshi Games

Action Games
Adventure Games
Whatever fits you, the cartridges are large and twice the size of an advance game, all games for the systems mentioned above are compatable with your pink game boy color unit.

Thanks!

Hey Twixinit10,
Take out the Cartridge (The Game) and blow hard into the bottom part where you click it into the gameboy. Then Blow hard into the cartridge of the GameBoy Color (Where you insert the game). If that fails, your Game has Corrupted Files on it. This is very common in old Video games. It can be caused by just about anything.

If this helps, please rate this solution as a FixYa. - Evolution
