A JVC AV-65WP74 has convergence problems. It is also bowed in from top and bottom. Is there more to this than just the convergence ICs?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and also check the power resistor, if values are not exact you have to replace them. These ICs are located behind the black heat sink; you can see once you open the back off the TV. Also, the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder joints and please make sure to check the resistors as if they are shot the ICs might blow again. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components, if not then you should get this done by a professional. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is around $300-$350. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Hi,
Replace convergence out ICs and also check +28V and -28V supplies to ICs at CN00P coming from power supply board.
Also check any faded color big resistor and if found, replace it with same ratings written on it.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Convergence output ICs are located on convergence board and part number is STK392-110 and circuit location number is IC804 and IC805

Thank you. I found 2 open resistors also. I get my convergence completed but after I unplugged set and plugged it back in the convergence didnt stay. Is there a "lock in" button on the remote after setting convergence?

It calls "service menu" to adjust many things in tv but it is for qualified tech only and related service manual in hand is necessary because it contains default values of service menu.
In my opinion, there are still few resistors that are either devalued or open. I would not recommend to go in service menu, please fix hardware of tv and convergence will be fixed automatically.

did you check the low ohm resistors. A JVC will almost always blow at least one and if the ICs are replaced without replacing the resistors the new ICs will fail instantly

JVC AV-65WP74 clicks and sounds like a heart beating and then turns off. what is the problem, how much will a repair cost?

it could either be convergence ics shorted or deflection board trouble
as to cost convergence 300 to 350
if its power supply 300.400
it would have to be isolated down to the exact location causing the problem
but usualy a great set to keep around

You need to replace the two Convergence amp ICs they are both STK392-110 thats a easy reapir on that model , But dont remove the rear panel with the power cord plugged in you will destroy the digital circuits. the Ics are up front behind the speaker grille. You can get new replacement Ics at the following link with free instaltion instructions with pictures. Here's the link,
