Replaced black cartridge in my lexmark 3500-4500 printer. message reads "left cartridge incorrect". Have taken cartridge out and put back in numerous times still get this message.

You may have bent or broken a sensor wire. Check how the other (color) side looks by removing cartridge and confirm that nothing is awry. Otherwise, clean the metal contacts on both printer (power off and unplug) and cartridge with rubbing alchohol and a cotton swab, then try again.

I put in new color and black cartridges a couple of days ago and was able to print okay. Now I keep getting ''Remove and Check Black Cartridge'' prompt. I've taken out Black Cartridge, turned off printer,...

hope you put back both cartridges before trying again..try wiping the tip of the black cartridge before replacing it..then activate the head cleaning process..

Ink cartridge (not) installed properly

For the Canon iP1800 printer are you sure you're using the 30 for black and 31 for color?

And make sure they "click" when installed. That should confirm that they're nice and tight in their ink compartments.

Besides that, maybe reinstalling the printer drivers could do something?

Ink cartridge (not) installed properly

Did you make sure that the colored tape was removed from the back of the ink cartridges? The manufacture puts the tape on there to protect the circuits during shipping. If the tape is still there it would not be able to communicate with the printer or computer.
