I bought my son a x-box 360 for x-mas. I thought it was from a legit business but.... It was great price for a system with 5 games (shoulda known it was to good to be true,,lol) It wasn't till afterwards I noticed the disks where burnt to DVD+R's so I imagine it would have to modded to do this. I have called tech support and they said my system came from the states even though I live in Canada and when I went back to the business he was gone! (no surprise) Guess I got scammed!
anyways, It worked great up until about 2 weeks ago,,then I seen the Orange/yellow colored lights (not red), and thought uh-oh,,but after turning it off and on it worked fine,,but a couple days later it started giving us problems ejecting,,it acted like the disk would get stuck, we would turn it off for a few minutes and then no problem out comes the disk,,but then it started giving us the read disk error even on brand new disks and now the freaken thing keeps resetting itself everytime you turn it on even without a disk in it.
Anyways (even though i haven't called them) I am assuming that if it's modded I can forget about support from Microsoft so any ideas how I can fix this problem myself, I have all the disassembly info and guides to repair but not sure what I am suppose to be repairing,,lol
Any help is appreciated
P.S. I am a computer Tech so hardware doesn't scare me.

You just got ripped off. Who told you to get more memory? Red lights indicate hardware failure, not insufficient memory. in fact, this problem sounds suspiciously similar to the rrod on the original 360.
ok, what you need to do, is leave it laying horisontal, this is actually better for the console, but after you open the console, remove the disc drive and make sure all moving parts are lubed up, and with the drive out, push the tray back in.
It's more than likely the DVD drive. Try a different game or 2 to be certain. If you are still getting that issue try running a CD based cleaner a few times. If that doesn't solve your issues contact Microsoft as a recently purchased console should be fully under warranty.
if this on the white 360 console/s.
it means the disk drive most probably crashed, i dont know about fixing them, but the black 360 consoles do have a higher reputation of longer lasting. dont know if this helps tho.
Well I've been having problems as well especially with Call Of Duty 4. I'm 14 and I was told its simply the Christmas overload that everyone has gone out and bought the system, games, and xbox live. Give it a month or so and see how it works out. Also, if you have a router, try connected the ethernet cord (if u have one) to the modem directly......it may work but dont take my word for it. Also, be sure you have DSL or Comcast. Good Luck.
some time your laser is a little wack but if you are haven trouble like that then send it to repair and youll get a new xbox so it works out for you.. or just buy the 29.99 warranty on your box and get a 350.00 new box in 2 weeks. i did that once wen i still had warranty on it so.
18004myxbox they will send you a box, put your 360 in it, wait 1 month and you will get a new 360. I am on my fourth 360 in 5 months. I just get used to one and then BAM!!! THE RED RINGS OF DEATH APPEAR!
