Note: I am assuming that you want to do a system restore and the operating system is Vista
What you can do is keep tapping F11 key on the keyboard as soon as you push the power button to turn on your notebook
It will take you to the recovery manager screen
then select the advance option
under it you will find microsoft system restore ( donot click on recovery )
You can try running restore this way as well and also try different restore points if one does'nt work
Hope it works for u !!

Please come back to vote, it would be a great appreciation for me and boost my determination to help so that I can keep on helping.

I have a PC HP Pavillion a6300la with a hitachi HDP725032GLA380 hard disk. I was contamninated by a virus, and now i cannt install a windows

Once you're sure that the virus is eradicated, in order to work around any viral damage it may have left in your system, you may have to consider a "System Restore," which restores your system files to the sanity of the last time you (or your system) stored a system restore point. To try this solution:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

hELLO THERE
thank you for choosing fixya
ok here is the best way to hopefully take care of this that i have used on several older hp pavillions
when you go thru the recover system and you get to the black box and it says no device found or something similar at the command prompt type list and then press enter and it will give you a list of the 2 drives like c: /hp-recovery fat 32 and d: / hp_pavillion when it does this exit and type in the recovery drive with colons like this d: then type cd\windows\system32 then press enter then at the command prompt type rd /s catroot2 then press enter and answer y to the next screen then type exit and then once it has exited now shut down the computer if it does not do this for you
now upon restart it should recover your system automatically with no problems ok
please feel free to rate this solution
best regards mike

HP Pavillion dv9000. Intermittent stops. Cannot restart, but will do so after many hours. Screen turns blue with band of torn blue that looks like shutters. System carries out repair check - once worked...

Try booting your computer in safe mode... when your machine starts press F8 and go to Windows. Run for a couple of hours and see if this problem happens.

If you have system restore running, restore back to a point when you didnt have the problem

My hp pavillion pc will not work....i am able to access the bios but cannot go into safe mode. can you advise

Best thing is to reinstall Windows. Either attempt a repair thru windows setup or a factory restore. Contact HP on how to start the PC restore feature on your model of HP.

HP pavillion acting weird

system restore, your description sound like a brontok but hopefully not, just perform system restore, restore the PC to about a day or 2 before you installed AVG.

1.Click Start.
2.Point to All Programs.
3.Point to Accessories.
4.Point to System Tools.
5.Click System Restore.
6.Follow the instructions on the wizard.

once AGV is removed, you may try to look at NOD32 antivirus. its fast and great for my old computers too.

HP Pavillion Programs freezing

Suggest restoring the system to factory settings. You will lose all of your data so back it up first.

Restore is either on disks or on recovery partition of hard drive. If you have recovery disks put first one in and reboot computer.

When the computer starts you should see an option to hit F10 for System Restore/Recovery. Hit F10, click advanced settings and choose Destructive Restore. Follow the prompts.

Will need to reload all programs after restore is done that did not come with computer such as Office.

Hope this helps.
Thanks!
