This is a 2006 model and depending on what the problem looks like there are only Two boards inside that can cause this. If the dots are fixed and black I would suspect the DMD board: Part number is : BP96-01670a List price is 182.40 If the dots move and or are colored I would suspect the MAIN board that processes all signal: Part number is: BP94-02291a List price is 186.76 Both boards may be available for less if you Google the parts number and or the model number. These part numbers are from the Samsung site and should be marked on each board. Let me know if you have questions or need any advice, I am here to help you. SD TECH

what about the dlp chip, is it that or can it be that

I don't know who you have been talking to but there is not such thing as a DLP "chip".

Understand some experts here are not expert at anything except shall we say bs?

I make you a sincere offer. Provide me with a photo of what it looks like (it can be posted here or elsewhere) and I will try to narrow it down.

This is off topic but some so called experts here like to guess and have no hands on knowledge of having actually repaired sets like this one.

Whoever told you "DLP chip" search the user name they have here and check their record out--it will show how many they have helped and how many thought the help was not helpful.....

This aside, this set consists of circuit boards and if I was you I would hope one of the two indicated is bad as if not the light engine (Which the DMD board is a part of) is rather expensive and usually makes the set not worth fixing if it has to be replaced.

It is later here in California but I will be around for a while longer. You got Yahoo IM?

If the dots move around - the signal is weak. Since you didn't tell us what is the source of the signal i can't say more than - get a better signal.
If the dots are fixed and they don't change color - the DLP chip is dying, you will have to replace it. It will be expensive, let's hope it's still in warranty.

its on any source and no the dots don't move around or away. Do you know the dlp chip #

  • Azrael SRL May 13, 2010

In that case your problem is surely with the DMD chip - the chip from the DLP module that forms the image - it's dying, cannot be repaired and must be fixed. Its model is BP96-01670A.

Hi,
This blue dot and hue problem is due to bad lcd in your tv as its Sony dlp tv that has optics block, that is also called light engine, it consists of 3 lcds, filters and lamp to produce an image that projects on front screen.
In this tv, blue lcd became defective and complete light engine will be replaced to get it fixed.
As other expert talking about blue CRT (cathode ray tube) that does not exist in this tv and my fellow expert has no idea about this kind of tv, sorry for that.
Hope this info will help you, let me know if you have additional question.
