VS10162 back screen

I have a VS10162 -like it very much - however I installed USB plug to add a 2nd monitor - losing my vision - and it worked fine for a few days. One morning I found the system was on all night. Suddenly the screen is only dark - if you press a key - the monitor will come on for a second and go back to black. The green light on the on buton goes to orange.
I yelp for help!
Thanks

I have a VS10162 monitor - computer would not let me enter it.

Did you try hooking it up directly to the PC as the main and only monitor yet? It acts like it is not getting the video signal from the PC.http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/al...

thanks so much for responding - let me try to give you a clear time line - I am losing my vision in one eye - so I needed a 2nd monitor.

1- My ViewSonic (primary monitor) was working fine as a single monitor. The only glitch was from the start the silver button with the green light that is pushed in to start is loose - however it still worked when I pushed it in - from day 1. Just hands lose.

2- I purchased an Acer monitor as a (secondary monitor)

I purchased a Trittonusa USB connector that allows me to have

two monitors. I loaded the software - and for three days - it

    worked fine.

    3. I came to work yesterday or the day before - and I noticed that my computer had not shut off the night before - and that the screen on the ViewSonic was black. I turned if off and on - and the only think the ViewSonic would do is show the screen for a moment when I hit the space bar or enter. I switched the monitors - same thing. I cold booted bringing up the Acer as the primary connected directly to the computer (so I could work) and it was fine. I called Acer and they helped me remove the software until this is resolved (don't understand that as my Acer is up now as a primary and only monitor so I can write you.

What scares me - is that I purhcased the Acer myself to proove I could easily make two monitors work. My office is small and cheap however I am losing vision. If the ViewSonic broke - it happend just when I was starting to use the Acer and USB software for two monitors.

Although a monitor can break at any moment - this is terrible as it looks like what I did - toasted the ViewSonic.

Which means I either I try to explain to those who won't understand or I go out and buy another monitor which I can't afford.

Does this help at all? Part of me says the chances of the ViewSonic failing exactly when I started using two monitors are small. I am hoping there is an answer.

    Thanks again -

Thanks for both ideas - I appreciate you.

I did hook the ViewSonic (VS) directly to the desktop
and directy to my laptop. Each time it is the same. Pressing Fn and F8 on my laptop makes want is on the laptop on the (VS) screen - for about 2 seconds. Then it falls black again. I turned off the lights - and used a flashlight to see if I could see anything on the (VS) screen. Nothing.

I wonder if what we do know - might lead to what parts I need to replace.

    - the result is the same in all applications - the screen will light up - then black in a second or two.

    - When powered on - the green light on the on button comes on - however when the screen comes up and goes down - it turns orange.

    - I tried another tip - plug and unplug the power to the (VS) - did not work - screen did come up - then down after a second or two.

Thanks for your help in moving forward in knowing what to do next. I will stand by. Thanks again. The (VS) is not very old at all - and has really good care.

One suggestion is to purchase a new power supply - another was to purchase a back light. Since the screen on the other computer comes up - for a second - we know the image is there - but how do I know what to replace? Thanks!

  • Bill8017 May 13, 2010

hooked it up to everything again - it's the same on all - so what ever problem it is - it is solid on being one thing I suppose.

How could I determine what part I need? Is there a way?
The flash light test failed - I could see nothing however the screen comes up for a second - so it's there - just need to know what keeps it up.
Any thoughts? I am in a real pickle.

The reason I ask you to hook up the viewsonic directly to the PC is to find out if the problem is in the USB adapter or in the monitor itself, you can also try your Viewsonic with other computer.
Basically just have the PC, VIEWSONIC, NO USB or the monitor. We need to narrow down the problem.

You can look at the power supply/inverter combination board: Thsi is what it looks like.

    http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-un...

The problem can be the bad caps as shown in my albums: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352...

Many failed LCD monitors are due to bad caps in the power supply. You can look for bad caps first or try to get the board when it is back in stock. Warning though, it can be bad lamp assemblies also, you you need the lamp tester to verify that.

You can only do so much without proper tools and test equipment, I use spare LCD Lamp assemblies to test the inverter board, so I do not waste my time trying to fix the inverter circuits if the problem is in the lamp assemblies. Since you do not have the test lamps then you may be taking a chance replacing the power supply/Inverter board if the lamps are bad. Did you look at the shopjimmy website to see what the board looks like, look at my picture to see what bad caps look like. If you have no knowledge of electronics, no proper tools such as soldering iron, DMM, etc, then you should take it to local repair shop. You have to open it up, but there are LEATHAL VOLTAGES INSIDE, if you are not sure, then do not open it up.

How to add a 2nd monitor

Most laptops have a VGA port so an external monitor can be added. Then you might have to press a Fn key combination to get the other monitor to display.
If you want to add a second monitor to a Desktop computer, you'll need to install another graphics card. A USB adapter card is available; do a search for different models available.

If neither of these answer your question, please explain exactly what you need a monitor to display from; you posted to the Network and Wireless Adapters section, which is confusing..

My usb port on monitor isn't working. how can i fix this?

Hi,
The USB ports on the monitor will work only if you connect the monitor via a USB cable to your PC/Laptop's USB port. Sounds awkward. Doesn't it? There must be a USB cable with flat socket on one end and trapezium shape jack on one end. It should be in the box which the monitor came in. The USB ports in the monitor are just another extended USB ports for your PC/Laptop. If you can't find the cable mentioned above, it is the same cable you connect to a printer, scanner,........ In some cases you might need to install a driver which should also come along with monitor. Mostly you don't need to install.
Good luck.

Connect 2nd monitor to small form factor dc5800

Hello.

You have 2 options to connect an additional monitor to your desktop:

1. install a low profile video card that has multiple video outputs
2. purchase a USB to VGA/DVI device to allow a 2nd monitor to be connected.

Your model PC does not have a DisplayPort on it (newer PC's have this and this provides another monitor connection). So you will need to add hardware to the PC so you can connect the 2nd monitor.

Because you have the "Small Form Factor" model, standard height video cards will not fit in it. You would need to get the shorter model video card - typically labeled "low profile".

The other option is to purchase a USB to VGA or USB to DVI adapter that would allow you to connect the second monitor to your PC. The only thing to watch for when getting this type of adapter is to make sure your current Operating System is supported by the adapter. Many adapters that work on Windows XP will not work with Windows 7 or 8.

You are probably having the typical failure of capacitors on your power board.

I turn on my monitor and it works fine for about a minute then i lose the screen. It a vision quest monitor and I'm using it as my second monitor but its hooked up to monitor port 1 on my tower.

The problem is most likely the power cord if this is an LCD screen. They need a specific amperage and if it is just a little off it will do exactly what it does, powers up and then shuts down. Check specifics on the back of the screen and make sure the power supply matches. I had exactly the sam problem on a monitor, I got the right power supply and fixed the problem.
