To get a dual screen on a laptop you need to have an external display plugged in. On your model you need to plug it in on the connector next to where the power plug goes.

Once you have it plugged in then you need to tell windows to use it. With the monitor plugged in (it is detected by the hardware and enables the selections) right click on a clear spot your desktop. This brings up the display properties window. You can also acess this through control panel or any video manager software. Once the properties manager is up click on the settings tab. It should show 2 displays in the graphics. Number 1 is the display on the laptop. 2 is your external monitor. You may have seen something on the monitor but usually you have to set it one time. You can use the external display as a duplicate of your dektop or you can extend your desktop onto both. You can change the settings easily so play with it to see which way you like to use it. It is nice to have a big display once in a while.

Dual screen mode? You mean dual monitor mode?
But anyways, the maximum resolution that you can obtain on your Pavilion dv6t is 1366x768 unless you attach an external monitor. Even then, only the external monitor can go above 1366x768 resolution. You're laptop screen will remain at 1366x768 max.

Dual Screens with a VGA connection

The easiest way would be to purchase a video card that has 2 vga ports on it, allowing dual monitor support. Here is an example.

Try to connect external monitor to your laptop then hit the short cut keys(see your manual)to use dual monitor. if you got screen on dual monitor. Try to check your laptop screen if something can still be view from screen, if you have then backlighting circuit is to be check. Practical solution is to bring it to a shop if you are not inclined on fixing it yourself.

What program are you using for the dual setup? Place a shortcut in startup. usually an external monitor is used in place of the laptop LCD.
