Question about HP 1040 Plain Paper Inkjet Fax

1 Answer

I have an HP 1040 fax machine. The machine is not printing, even when I do a Self Test. It goes through all the motions of printing, but nothing shows on the paper at all. The ink level indicator says 5/8. What should I do?

Hello,

First, power off the printer and power on back after a while, if it is not still printing, I suggest you check the ink level on the printer cartridge, it is possible that the ink in the cartridge is below printing level, that is why it is not printing anything on the paper, if the ink is below printing level, change the ink cartridge and try to print, if it did not still print, it means you will have to uninstall the printer driver from your system and reinstall back.

The two mentioned solution should solve the problem.

Take care.

Your reply says to look at the ink level, but I already mentioned in my original note that the ink level indicator says 5/8. So, why would the ink be out as you say? Is there anything that would cause the ink not to flow?

    Hello,

One of the problem that could make ink not to flow from cartridge is when the driver of the printer is corrupt, as i said earlier, uninstall the printer driver and install back after uninstalling. this can help solve the problem of printer not printing.

Secondly, you can also remove the printer ink cartridge and shake very well, because it is possible that the ink inside the cartridge might be sticky, if it as been long that you have used it. while doing this, find out if the ink level inside the cartridge is still very much okay to print, if not change the cartridge with sufficient ink.

Also, after you remove the ink cartridge, clean the surface of the cartridge, because there might be dust, smudges, and ink deposit at the surface of the ink cartridge. clean all the exterior of the ink cartridge with a soft cloth, moistened with water.

To clean the cartridge automatically, click start or click all programs, click Hewlett-packard, and then click printer assistant.

Click utilities, click view ink level, If the cartridge in low on ink, discontinue these steps, replace the cartridge, then try printing again.

If the cartridge contain a sufficient amount of ink, continue to the next step. click printer maintenance, click clean cartridges. follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cartridge cleaning.

All this should solve the problem.

    Take care.

No print on copies or faxes

This is a clogged print head. This happens if the printer has been off for a long time or if the cartridge was removed and the unit left empty for any time.
Take out the cartridge and press the print part on a piece of paper. Any black lines? If not, you will need a new cartridge. Wiping the print head gently with a Q-tip moistened with PURE alcohol (99%) may restore printing.

My fax won't print, neither faxes nor copies. The paper goes through & it makes sounds like it is printing but nothing on the paper. The machine says the ink level is 6/8. I "aligned" and...

Though the ink level it said was "6 / 8", when I removed the cartridge to examine it looked bone dry empty to me. I replaced the ink cartridge. It works fine, and reports the ink level as "8 / 8".

Installed a brand new cartridge in hp 1040 fax but prints very poorly(light )

remove the new cartridge

TAKE A MICROFIBER CLOTH MOISTENED WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL AND WIPE THE PRINT HEAD ( THE PART OF THE CARTRIDGE THAT CONTACTS PAPER)

REINSTALL THE CARTRIDGE THEN TEST

ALSO YOU MAY WANT TO WIPE OFF THE CONTACTS ON THE BACK OF THE INK CARTRIDE WITH THE MICROFIBER CLOTH MAKING SURE THERE ARE NO FINGERPRINTS ON THE CONTACTS
