Question about Cuisinart SPB-10 7-Speed Blender

1 Answer

My SPB-7 series blender had been giving off and acrid, burnt plastic smell and now won't work at all. The bottom of the cutting assembly is all chewed up and the motor base feels a little rough too. When I turn it on now it lets out a high pitched whine and the blade doesn't turn. However when I turn it on without the blender jar the motor base spins just fine. Do I just need a new cutting assembly or is the whole thing shot?

I have monkeyed with a couple of these things, and always found a broken part, or jammed and burned up (as in your case). Once this happens, it always seemed to mess up something else, so I would ditch the project and just bite the bullet and buy a new one. You don't have anything to lose by taking it apart and seeing what you can see, but you might get lucky and be able to identify the bad parts, and restore it. If you have the original literature, they usually have a replacement parts list for some items, otherwise you would have to contact Cuisinart directly to find them, and even then, sometimes they don't sell them separately, you never know. Wish I had an "easy fix" for you, good luck!

Can't remove glass jug from plastic base...........Used once.....not impressed....probably won't buy again

The bottom of the plastic base has some grooves on it to grip it. Make sure you are turning the glass counterclockwise with respect to the base being below it.

Leaking cuisinart smart power 7-speed electronic blender

There is probably a hairline fracture or tiny crack in the blade assembly itself - replace the blade assembly - it will automatically come with a gasket, so you will have an extra.

Cuisinart sealing gasket

The gasket goes between the cutting assembly and the glass. So you slip it on over the top of the blades and then put the glass jar over top of that. Screw the bottom cap on to tighten everything together.

Lights blink, but Cuisinart Smartpower 7-speed wont turn.

The thermal fuse is blown. You can buy a replacement from RadioShack for $1.69 You have to remove the old one and solder in the new one. If youre "handy" its very easy. Take it to a repair shop, you pay about the same as a new one. Its too bad that most electronics made today are cheaper to throw away and buy a new one rather than fix them when they break.
