Question about Maytag PAV2300 Top Load Washer
I have an old Maytag ----23+years----and I need to get the lid off
to replace the lid safety switch----how do I get the lid up? Thanks
If you have broken or damaged lid hinges on your Maytag washer, the lid will have to be removed. Once you know how to take a Maytag washer lid off you can quickly replace the hinge and get your washer working again. Most Maytag washers are designed so that the control panel and the top panel can be serviced without completely removing them.
Step 1 Unplug the Maytag washer from the wall outlet. Pull it away from the wall. This will give you room to rotate the control console and the top panel into their service positions.
Step 2 Use a screwdriver to remove the securing screws that hold the control console to the top panel. Roll the control console back to allow it to rest in the service position.
Step 3 Insert a large blade putty knife between the top and front panel. Locate the retaining clips located 2 inches from each corner. Press in on the retaining clip and lift up on the top panel to release the clip. Repeat process for the opposite corner.
Step 4 Lift the front of the top panel up and rotate it back to the service position. The top panel will rest on hinges.
Step 5 Use a screwdriver to remove the hinge screw on each side. The screw is located under the top panel.
Step 6 Lift the lid hinge off of the pivot post. Grab the lid and remove it from the washer top panel.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.

I had the same problem. The lid lock assembly is broken.
If you are under warranty get it replaced. If not remove the top of the washer
and take out the switch assembly. The 4 wires going in are Yellow, Red, White,
and Blue. If you short the white and blue together, the washer thinks the lid
is closed. If you short the red white and blue together the washer thinks the
lid is closed and locked. The yellow is only there to activate the
Disconnecting the switch assembly will not work.
The electromagnet locks the lid and it also unlocks the lid. It is not a matter of cutting the power to the magnet.
Installing 2 switches that connect the red white and blue is the best option if you want to remove the lock.
The first switch should connect the white and blue. (LID CLOSED)
The second should connect the red to the white/blue connection. (LID LOCKED)
After that the lid should work.
Please post a follow-up if this works for you.
