Hi, Just purchased Wireless router and during set up with disc
I am asked for password on http://192.168.0.1. On the back of router it says 'username: admin password: password".
It will not accept this, nor will it accept my talktalk password or the original talktalk set up password.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Re: netgear dg384g v4
First check that you do not have capitals lock in.Then try again the following whilst you put http://192.168.0.1. on your browser.
Default: 'username: admin password: password". or 'username: admin password: 1234". or 'username: admin password: 'blank empty space here'".
If all the above does not work then your router had been used, and password changed, or is fault. in this case bring it back and ask replacement. There is also a reset button at the back of router. It is a tiny hole where you stick a pencil on router startup to get reset. But if the router is new and does not get default user/password I suggest changing it, It is possibly a return, and you do not know if you get more troubles after reset.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to one of the ports on the router. On the PC, hold down the "Windows" key, and press/release the 'r' key, and release the "Windows" key.
In the window that opens, type 'CMD' and press ENTER.
Type 'IPCONFIG' and press ENTER.
Look for the "IP-V4" address of the "gateway" -- probably something like '192.168.0.1'.
Open Internet Explorer, and type 'http://192.168.0.1' (or something like that).
Now, login to the router's own web-server, using the router's "default" ID/password.
To secure it, set a new password.
Configure its "wireless" interface, to set an 'SSID' for your wireless network, and to configure it to use 'WPA2' protocol. Configure a password for your wireless network.
Restart the router.
It sounds like you are setting up or getting into a Workgroup and not a router configuration. To set up your netgear router would not ask you for a passhprase for mshome unless you set the router's SSID to be mshome. Normally the router's SSID will be Netgear or Default unless you changed. During setup you should go into the router's wireless configuration and change the SSID to something such as Your Last Name (ex. Smith_Network) and then set a password under security. If I were you at first I would not set a password. You can always log back into the router and set the password for wireless security later. Just make sure you can see your network SSID from the laptop and try connecting. If it connects then you can go back and set the wireless security.
to find the wep key of a netgear router, you first need to ensure that you are connected to the netgear router. after ensuring that you are connected, open a browser, internet explorer or firefox, type 192.168.1.1 or www.routerlogin.net it would now ask you for a username and password. username is " admin " password is the word " password " itself. you would see the netgear page next. click on " wireless settings " on the leftside of the screen. there you would see your WEP key on security options
You need to configure your router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. Then set WAN settings as internet service provider settings enable DHCP. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
In order to check or change your password for NetGear , go to http://192.168.1.1.
It will ask you for a user name and password. The default is “admin”
and “password”, Once you are connected, go to Wireless Settings and you have the
option to change password there.
Select your router model (v5,v4..) and look at the docs on the webpage.
You can login to your router by using one of these IP addresses http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in your browser address bar.
You will see your network key under the wireless settings.
Hope this helps.
Select your model (v3,v4,v5 etc) then look at the setup pages. Set your security to WPA rather then WEP as this is easily crackable, and with WPA you can choose the password. You should also change the routers admin password to be extra safe.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
The universal pword is, believe it or not, 1234
Here is the website with exact instructions from NetGear itself - these instructions are for the v4 version of your router - make sure this is the correct version of the WGR614, or else this exact page will not work for you - if you have v7 instead, go to the v7 page, etc. http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/N100651.asp
