I have a gateway one zx6900 cooling fans make a lot of noise. How do i fix this?

Replace the FAN. You cannot FIX these. REASON> The fan motor generally turns on a ball bearing or oil impregnated sleeve. These tend to dry or wear down from use or age.
They are low cost devices and replacement is the only way to go.

Replacing heatsink fan for a larger fan for Emachines modelE4028

Look for a heatsink fan based on the CPU chip set. Like LGA775, but double check your CPU. Gateway / Emachine pointed me to:

Need A processor fan motor for mo. gm5420

Hi ome, I looked up some specs and found a pdf file that has photos of the cpu fan. It looks to be a standard fan that you should be able to buy at Radio Shack. Remove the fan and take it with you to Radio Shack and they will be able to match it up. Here is the link to the pdf file on your GM5420: Alternatively if you want on buy one on line, the Core2 Duo has a LGA 775 socket type and you can find fans at the link below: Hope this helps

Got a gateway ml6714 that runs hot then freezes up. i think the processor fan is failing. what can i do?

A search for that part showed a lot out of stock. But here's one on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Gateway-M675-Dual-Heatsink-Cooling-Fan-8008625-/230467425374 If you think it is bad there is no other way to find out unless you replace it and see.

The fan in my gateway laptop has stopped working and now it it overheats and shuts off. I tried to take it apart. I remove all the visable screws on the bottom but it is still holding on buy something.

It depends on the model and processor but there may be a shiny metal bar that appears to go through the fan that is then clipped onto each side of the socket.

I there is then one side looks like it may hinge a little and what you would do is push down and away from the CPU this would release the fan so long as it was not stuck to the CPU (most are not but some are)

If you look carefully at the fan here also be small 4 black screws that may also allow you to release it.

For most coolers that would be enough and then you would just disconnect the flying lead and pop over to the nearest computer store for another one. without knowing the model of your computer or motherboard it is a little difficult to make a full assessment of what you need.

Ijust replaced the cpu fan and now the computer won't boot - it just flashes the gateway logo

make sure that the power reqs for the fan are the same as one you replaced and make sure that the new fan is the same prong (3 or 4). Also make absolutely sure you plugged the new fan power supply inti the CPU fan slot

I need to know which fan i need for my pc

This heatsink & fan assembly is the replacement for the Gateway 500SE & E-machine systems.
http://www.skyline-eng.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=5564
Under the window: Search by Machine click the dropdown menue & choose as follows.
Type: Gateway Desktop Parts
Series: 500
Model: Gateway 500SE Parts
Than click submit.
Click, Cooling Fan.
More socket 478 CPU fans.

Most CPU fans come with the heatsink. Try not to buy a fan that comes with a grill over it. That slows the fan down & makes the fan work harder.

Good luck!
