Advise checking THE receptacle in the surge protector the computer is plugged into, for a start. It is possible to have a surge protector with just one bad receptacle. I have tossed quite a few surge protectors with this 'ailment' in the trash, in the past. [Hmmm, monitor, printer, and router is receiving power, therefore the surge protector must be good. NOPE. One bad receptacle. The start of the demise of the surge protector] If upon finding the surge protector's receptacles are all good, I advise checking the Power On switch, and the Power Supply. The Power On switch is bypassed for this test. If upon bypassing the Power On switch the computer comes on, the switch is bad, and the power supply works. If upon bypassing the Power On switch the Power Supply does Not come on, the Power Supply is bad. Should you wish to do this procedure, and would like to know how, simply state so in a Comment.

Most common, make sure that it is properly plugged in. The plug can sit in the back of the power suply but not be fully in.
The next step may be to replace your power supply (IF NEEDED - dont get scared yet)..
Also make sure that the computer may have a power supply in the back (where the power cable goes in) that has it's own power switch. This has to be on.

What is a USB receiver?

If your computer is a laptop, most of (all) laptops comes with a built-in wireless adapter. And if it is working, you don't need one.

If you have a desktop (a tower casing, monitor, keyboard and mouse) setup, mostly they don't have built in wireless receiver. But if your desktop is custom built like mine, I have installed a wireless card in my desktop. But not really recommended. Since it sits in the desktop tower casing and if you need to get more signal and have to move around, you get furious because it is not mobile.
USB receiver or adapter can be extended via a USB extension cable (3 meter, 7 meter, 10 meter) and put it where the signal strength is high or remove it and use it on any other computer (laptop or desktop) with a USB port.
So, if your computer is not equipped with a wireless adapter/card built in and need to have wireless access, you need to buy a usb wireless adapter. These days they are as cheap as 8$ to 50$.

Hope this helps.

My computer's tower turns on but it doesn't display on the monitor, the monitor shows the normal Self test box so the monitor doesn't seem to be the problem. Also when I press the power off...

Make sure that the cable is connected from your computer to the monitor, and if it is wiggle it and push it in all the way. If it has screws, screw them in. If that does not work, check that your monitor is on the correct input (if it has multiple) then see if anything comes on the monitor. If nothing happens you should buy a new cable from the store. If all of those steps do not work your computer or your monitor might have a more serious problem.

The monitor keeps saying no signal

Turn power off to the tower and the monitor before making any connection changes.Make sure that the Blue connector from your monitor is connected to the Blue connector on the back of the computer tower. If this doesn't work you should try the monitor with another computer, just to check that the monitor is working. If the monitor works on another computer you may need to buy a Graphics Card. Next, try another monitor with your tower- If the problem still exists it is likely you need a Graphics Card.

If your monitor is going in Power save mode it can be cause by following reasons.

>If the Dell Dimension 4600 Tower is powering on.

If still in power save mode then try to shutdown Tower and monitor, disconnect power cable from tower and monitor.Hold the power button on tower for 15 seconds. Then again try to connect monitor and check,if still nogo, and if tower has no lights then issue with motherboard or video card or power supply. If possible try connect spare known good monitor.

Thankyou

Hi! For dell machines when u unplug the video cable/VGA from the tower while the system is on it will show monitor self test.If you are seeing a black box moving around the screen it means that monitor is ok.Check connection between monitor and tower.Make sure cables are securely plugged in.Check if the tower is ok. There is a possibility that your monitor is ok but the tower is not.check the power button (whats the color) if amber/orange, this means there is something wrong the the tower. If its blue or white it means its ok.Also check if you are going to hear one beep, it means system is booting up properly. If tower is ok and you are using a expansion video card then try to use internal one, normally its the vga port above the usbs.If you are going to use onboard video card make sure you enable it first in bios.If all things fail, contact your manufacturer, if the system is under warranty then they will send a tech to check the machine.hope this helps...

Vga lead will not fit tower

Try turning it around. If it still doesn't fit, you may need a DVI to VGA adapter.

Can you provide the Wireless Router model number located on the bottom of the device. It should be on a white label.

I would think that during the entire setup process your computer would be connected to your router, or that you were at least wirelessly connected to the router to configure.

Down in the notification area (area by the clock in the lower right corner of your computer) do you see an icon with a monitor and a couple curved lines? You should be able to right-click on it and select "View Wireless Networks". This should open a window where it will display the name of your wireless router (provided that it's powered on). You can highlight the name (we call it an SSID) and select CONNECT at the lower right corner of the window.

If you have security enabled you will need to input the security key you created and select ok.

That should connect you to the wireless network. Have you already configured the router to connect to the internet through your Internet Service providers equipment?
