Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

My Canon Pixma MP600 worked fine and now Windows isn't recognizing the device at all. I tried troubleshooting, changing the USB connection and adjusting the port options, but no success. Windows 7 driver is up to date.

Just checking to see if there are any other expert suggestions here. Trying to avoid buying a new printer. Thanks.

The expert was very helpful and took me through a few steps to help determine that my problem is with the printer hardware. Off to do online research. Oh well.

    @emissionwiz
This is the first time I tried this site so I have no idea how it works for the experts. I asked for another solution just like I would if a doctor told me I needed surgery. I wanted a second opinion. Thanks for your first solution!

Thanks for the solution. Nothing is working. The message says that there is a malfunction and that the device isn't being recognized.

One more detail that may have some bearing on the situation... the devices and printers folder in control panel shows a green check mark on the MP 600 and it also shows an unknown device in the unspecified area. As far as I know, there is no other device not hooked up. Can this have something to do with the problem?

    Thanks for your response!!

Initially what i am trying to do is to make sure whether it is a Software or a Hardware bug.It seems like a Software bug, but as we discuss it could be anything.

I have seen Certain Registry Changes could result in Non - Function of Printers. The Other Details you mentioned might affect the working of Printer.

Is that a Possibility that you could set up this Printer on a Different Machine. That would help us to make sure whether we need to Find a Software Fix or Hardware Fix.

    Let me know,once done.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for using

I just connected the printer to my netbook's USB port and here is the same message:

    USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

    Does this info help?

    Thanks for your response!!

Is it the same or a Different Operating System?

I wanted to make sure that, this is not a Software Issue. In the Past, there were certain issue's like this with a Particular Operating System. Try to use this Printer on Different machine ( with Different O.S ).If the same message, appears then it is Hardware Fault unless it is Software.

If it is Hardware, then the ball is in your court. There is no harm in giving the Manufacturer a call and ask for the Quote. This is a Common problem, So they would be aware of the same and could let you know a Ball park Estimate and then you could take a Decision from there.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Well that said a lot. I just tried it with a Vista laptop and at first it started to install the driver, but after a second the same message came up that it is not being recognized. So, it's a hardware problem. The unit is about three years old so I guess I should be thankful that it didn't break down sooner.

What a bummer that all these old electronic pieces wind up in a landfill somewhere. They are never worth repairing. Thanks for your help!

Same problem on 2 different laptops (Win7 & 8). However I followed the instructions in the link provided on my Win7 laptop, method 3 disabling/unistalling the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. It worked! Thank you. Now to check it out on the Windows 8 laptop. If not will try the same remedy on that.

Un-install the software for the printer and then reinstall it, if the computer doen't recognize the printer then the printer is defective and u will need to repair it or replace it, with the cost of repair well over $100 the best solution if the printer is the problem is just replace it, which is the cheaper of the 2 options in almost all cases.

Can this happen all of a sudden? Working one day and then not the next?

I tried to uninstall the drivers through Control Panel, but the message says it's in use. I had already turned it off and unplugged the USB connection. Any suggestions?

yes it can happen all of sudden, electronics very seldom give any warning, have seen many printers do this, two of mine have failed this way.

I would try doing a system restore to an earlier date when the printer worked, if that fails u need a new printer

I told u in my posts the printer was bad, why do u now accept the same conclusion from another expert? i should get credit for my effort here with a helpful rating from you, that is only fair.

I understand what u are saying about a 2nd opinion, but still the credit for the problem should go to the 1st opinion if the other opinions bear out his solution. I get no credit for the right answer.

Try different USB ports on the computer to see if its a porblem with the port connection and if there's no change there then try using another USB cable that you know is working perfectly fine.
