I am sorry you are having to deal with such a frustrating issue. If you have replaced the power supply and the battery, you have already spent around $200. or more bucks only to have the same problem persist.

Probably the single-most vulnerable part of your laptop is the AC jack where your power supply interfaces with the laptop. Stress and fatigue cause power issues I see in every brand of laptop on a regular basis.

The good news is the part will only cost you between $20-30 bucks. The bad news is that unless you have a low-temp soldering iron and are experienced with soldering components on a circuit board, the repair will cost you around another $100.00. Its a fairly easy and quick repair with the right experience and tools. You will want to get your hands on service manual before disassembling your computer.

There is no additional circuitry on the motherboard you can or would want to bother replacing. Hope this helps FixYa! Please Rate up this solution if you find it helpful.

No a/c power light on laptop

Hello

Well the first thing you should check is the amount of power output to the power supply. for example the computer needs 12V but the AC Adapter only gives 9V.
If that's not it then the actual green light is not receiving that information from the motherboard. that's not an issue if the battery get's filled up and the laptop works normally . If you notice that the laptop tends to shut down quickly when it's not plugged in then the battery is worn out. These things happen since the a laptop battery becomes very inefficient after 2-3 years.
One more thing - try to rotate the input end of the ac adapter cable. maybe it's not making good contact inside the laptop.
Hope this helps.

Gateway wont power up the batt has been failing ,if pluged in the charging light comes on for a while then goes out if you try to start it tries then shuts down. could a bad batt cause this

If your battery is more than 2 years old, then it is a distinct possibility. Every battery type has a certain number of charge cycles (drain->recharge->drain) or time period. Lithium batteries run about 2 to 3 (tops) years. NiMH run about 10,000 charge cycles (or it could be 50,000 cycles if you know what to do). But if you're NOT using the original Gateway charger, then plug it into your laptop and see if it works. The 3rd party charger may have burned out the internal power components over time. In the worst case, you'll have to replace either the motherboard (hope you still have the product key!) or the motherboard's power connector, inside the laptop. At best, you might have to continue using the original power adapter. It will probably turn out to be a worn down battery, which needs replacing.

First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

My gateway laptop will not hold a charge unless the power cord is jiggled and placed in ackward positions. i assumed it was the ac adapter, replaced it, and now im still having the same problem. does my...

it looks like the battery is already defective. try to remove the battery and use only the ac adapter. if your computer works fine using only the ac adapter, then the battery is already degraded and needs to be replaced.

Gateway mt6705 doesn't charge

Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Brand new battery & ac adapter not working on MX3702

If you've replaced both the battery and the ac adapter then the fault lies in the charging circuit of the motherboard and generally that is either a motherboard replacement or having the power connection on the motherboard by a service center, either way usually about $100

The power port connector is soldered to the motherboard. So, you would need to replace the motherboard (costly). It would not be worth the cost. Sorry.
