    Order No. 181242 (Richard Brown)
I previously asked another Expert to tell me how to turn thr ringer off and on for a Uniden DECTR580 Series Cordless Phone. He(she) told me how to turn The volume up and down but I had already tried that. I also turned the Mute function off. Nothing that I have tried has worked. I would appreciate assistance.

    Order 18242 RE: Expert # 2
This solution did not work either. Perhaps someone could tell me the different settings on the base and the handset when they are setting the Uniden DECT1580 Series Cordless Phone handset and base for ringer Volume. Expert No. 2's Solution changes the handset and base volumes AS I PRESS the volume settings but does not change the ringer volume, which is 0.

IHAVE downloaded the Manual and printed it out. All 76 pages of it. There is nothing in the manual that addresses the peculiar problem that I have. Guess I am going to return it to Wal-Mart. Somebody must have dropped this unit in exactly the wrong way.

I thank you and the other persons that tried to help.

    Thanks for your response!!

I do not think it's BROKE. I did a search and Found that ' All you need to do is push the up button a few times and it will adjust
    the ringer
    '.

No Doubt it is a Common Problem. Kindly Follow what i wrote, and Revert, if Problem Persists and i would be glad to do more search.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks
for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hello, Don.

Here's some info from Uniden:

You can choose from four ringer volume settings (off, low, medium, and high) separately on each handset or the base.

1) With the phone in standby, press or on the handset or VOLUME or
VOLUME on the base. The handset or base sounds the ringer at that level.
2) Use on the handset or VOLUME on the base to make the ringer volume louder. Use on the handset or VOLUME on the base to make it softer or turn it completely off.
3) When you hear the ringer volume level you want to use, stop pressing keys.

The handset or base will use the new ringer volume starting with the next incoming call.
Note: If you set the ringer volume to Off, the handset or base won’t ring. Other handsets or base will ring according to their individual settings.

Hope this helps.

Note # 2 to turn the ringer off ...

  • NinaE May 13, 2010

Ooops ... #1 did not display completely. Should read:

    1) With the phone in standby, press (Up symbol) or (Down symbol) on the handset or VOLUME + or
VOLUME - on the base. The handset or base sounds the ringer at that level.

Sorry and I'm surprised that my solution didn't work - came right from Uniden for your model ... Did it not SAVE the settings for that handset ???

Hi,

To turn the Ringer On and Off or to Adjust the Ringer Volume, kindly follow these steps:

1) You can choose from four ringer volume settings (off, low, medium, and high) separately on each handset or the base.

2) With the phone in standby, press [UP arrow key] or [Down Arrow key] on the handset or [VOLUME +] or [VOLUME -] on the base. The handset or base sounds the ringer at that level. (See attached image)

3) Use [UP arrow key] on the handset or [VOLUME +] on the base to make the ringer volume louder.

Use [Down Arrow key] on the handset or [VOLUME -] on the base to make it softer or turn it completely off.

When you hear the ringer volume level you want to use, stop pressing keys.

The handset or base will use the new ringer volume starting with the next incoming call.

Note: If you set the ringer volume to Off, the handset or base won’t ring.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa

It's probably the volume. Find the volume control and turn it up. To test, just call yourself from that phone. It will ring and give a message telling you that you were called by your own phone. Just hang up after answering.
