Question about Canon BJC 85 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Bought used BJC-85 - feeds paper - won't print with new cartridge. Must have been dry too long. Where do I get a print head for it? Or a cleaning kit? I need it right away for a trip.

No need to change the print head. Just carry out all the maintenance tasks with the new cartridge. Make sure that you remove the thin plastic film from the ink pad. All you have to do is to click on printer/faxes in control. Click on properties in the drop down menu. Click on the maintenance and carry out each task i.e. print head cleaning, alignment, nozzles cleaning etc.

BJC 85 not printing after head replacement

I have similar problem. Print head won't print, then I clean with alcohol, and get rid of old ink inside. But then head seems to just shut down. I have several print heads and printers that have plenty of ink, but head won't work. I refuse to think the print head will break so easily. I used my BJC 85 for YEARS with no problem whatsoever, and suddenly, since last winter, I have 4 printers that have stopped printing.
I usually end up just buying another used printer on ebay until that one stops printing.

I just installed a brand-new color cartridge (still sealed) in my Canon BJC-85. My computer recognizes the printer and starts to go, but after the page runs through, no print. Any ideas?

The problem you are having is with the print head, not the printer.

Canon print heads, even new factory sealed ones, can end up being old and dried out because they didn't put expiration dates on them, and it's very possible to buy one of these that is dried because of that. There a a couple things you can try to get it printing.

First, try running the printer through one DEEP cleaning cycle. Sometimes that will prime and old " New " print head and get the ink flowing.

If that does not work, you can try wetting a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol and letting the print head sit on that for a couple minutes. If you see color starting to bleed out on to the towel, that is good because it means the ink is starting to flow through. Rubbing ( isoprophyl ) alcohol is safe to use because the conon ink is 65% alcohol.

If that does not work one last thing to try would be to put the print head up to a vacuum cleaner and try drawing it with the vacuum for about 30 seconds, and then blotting it on a paper towel. If none of those work, you'll need to get a new print head.

BJC-85 Not printing. New BC-10 and BCI-10. Paper loads normally

The problem you are having is with the print head and not the printer. Unfortunately, with these canon print heads, they are not dated, so it is possible to install a print head that was bought new and sealed, but is still dried out because it is old.

Try running the print head through one deep cleaning cycle, this sometimes will start to get an old print head flowing.

Deep cleaning cycle can be found by going to PRINTERS , right clicking on the BJC icon, selecting PROPERTIES from the drop down menu, and then selecting the MAINTAINENCE tab.

Check to make sure that the ink tank in the print head isn't dry. Even a new print head can have a dry tank if it's old.

Try cleaning the nozzle using the software that came with the printer, if it's been a while since you have printed, try cleaning the head with a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol.

CANON BJC-85 DOES NOT PRINT

Try this to clean the print head;
Canon will hate me for this.

1. Remove ink cartridges.
2. Remove print head.
3. Go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head being careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air-dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.

CANON BJC-85 Won't print black...

Turn on printer, press cartridge button, remove cartridge. On left side of remaining cradle, unsnap the cradle, lift up and remove. Take the cradle to your sink, wet a paper towel, and GENTLY wipe the long print head with the wet paper towel. Then run a small stream of clear cool water through the cradle, from the round pad that your cartridge rests on, until the pad looks ink-free. Dry everything with tissues and a hair dryer set on low, replace cradle in printer, replace cartridge, turn on printer, press Resume until it beeps three times, which runs the deep cleaning program, and after the procedure is finished, your printer will print as new.

Printer won't print

I have had a similar problem to this: I have had a BJC 80 for nearly 5 years and carried it around with my laptop using Win 98 and a par - par cable. It worked beautifully and successfully - so much so that when i saw a number of ink tanks going at very cheap volume prices in PC World i picked up a lot of them. Changing to an XP meant that i had to keep on using the par to par cable via a docking station but prevented my use of it with my new laptop - so when i brought it out of retirement it gave the blank printing problems yoiu described. By checking some error messages that it expected a black cartridge (which is what was installed) i found that inthe setup the software indicated it defaulted to colour cartridges. By changing this on the computer, it still printed blank pages but by changing the cartridge to colour it sprang into life when the set up asked for colour. I tried 2 other print heads which i had (3-4 years old) but still blank paper when printing to a black cartridge. I am now awaiting a new black print head carrier to see if it makes a difference. When trying with my laptop using XP and a par - usb cable it does not work at all. I have removed the sware driver for the Canon 80 and manually installed the one for the Canon 85 but no luck in printing to par - usb at this time
