First I would check to see that no one has turned up the power supply voltage over 13.8 volts this is sometimes done and called volting it is a very poor practice and results in damaging the radio. If this has not been done then seek professional help there is a calibration power out put adjustment.

DX 2517 has a buzz when you turn up the power it get much louder dim the lites and it starts to fade.? how to repair thank you

sounds like an RF problem. If its barfoot, make sure the power wire doesn't cross the coax.

If its on a linear, make sure the coax does not cross and the power wires are not near the radio.

Also, if you are running a power mic, the gain may be too loud.

Icr 2980 only get 20 wates on am

20 watts is very good considering it comes from the factory with only 4 watts. 4 watts is the leagal wattage allowed by the FCC. But FCC doesn't care any more.

If you need more wattage then that, you will need to get an AM linear amplifire. The radio's dead key must be set to a lower dead key to run it with out burning it up.

Symptom:Buzzing or motorboating sound in either the transmit or receive.
Problem: TR602 is oscillating
Cure: Replace C602 with a .01uF cap {Cap is located in the power supply board}.
RG 66,99,DX2517 Replace Q54 2SB754 60watt 7A with a higher power 2SB817 100 Watt 12A. Derating of this component will cool operation, provide better voltage stability,decrease wobble, allow voltage increase to 14.5 volts comfortably. (replace 10 volt caps in this section of the radio to a minimum of 16 volts before increasing supply voltage to this level)and provide faster swing rise time, Replace Q37 2SA473 to a 2SA1012-0 or ECG153 this will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation and it will also run a lot cooler.

My 2517 talks good after awhile on it it just drop out like dont have no mod but receive good let it cool it go back workin fine any idea? shows when this happens it shows on radio signal moving none on...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On a MOSFET version of a Galaxy DX2517 and assuming stock mic, heat related issues of missing modulation would require initial checks of:
  • echo circuit - board EB-2000 EPT0SSB51J;
  • mic amp - IC7 NJM4558D;
  • AF power amp - Q53 to Q55.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

RCI 2980 power adjust problem

VR16 is not the low power adjustment, it's the CW Tone.
As far as I can tell, there is no low power adjust.
Try a different resistance pot for the RF Power.

I HAVE A 2517 GALAXY RADIO IT IS MUFFELD ON TRANSMIT

What is the power output on a watt meter telling you? if it is up above an 8 watt dead key with the rf power turned all the way down, someone has turned up the radio inside and you will ned to turn it back inside to get about a 2 or 3 watt dead key with the rf power turned all the way down on the outside knob on the face of the radio. to do this, you will need to locate the VR18 pot for low power on am/fm and the VR14 pot for high power on am/fm and adjust accordingly, you are most likely overdriving the radio in some way and if you are not familiar doing this sort of thing, then my suggestion would be for you to take it to your nearest electronics repair tech and have them do it for you. It is not a costly procedure and you will be better off to have an experienced tech in there. Also if you are running a power mic on it, try turning it down some or going back to the stock mic to see if the problem persists. If it does while running the stock mic, then most likely it's internal issues like the one explained above.

Super Star 3900 GHP

Can't help you there. It's most likely that you screwed the modulator up by extending the frequency range. I used to work for Galaxy and I know what happens to a radio when amateurs try to modify them (no offense). If you modify a high power radio such as your Super Star, you're bound to have modulation and SWR problems. In expert advice, never do amateur radio modifications to a high power radio. If you want a more versatile radio, get a Galaxy DX 2517 CB base station. The DX 2517 has PA/FM/AM/SSB/USB/LSB/CW modes, and bands A-F, and a frequency range from 25.615 to 29.205 MHz. The Galaxy DX 2517 has modifications that can be done right at the factory, they are optional however. The only thing I find annoying with the DX 2517 is that it's bulky, it leaves no room for any competition. When it was designed, the engineers left space saving out of the question.
Anyway, Good luck
and
Best Regards,
Gavin93
