That is the code for a motor problem but it could be a wiring problem.
UNPLUG THE WASHER...

First--inspect all wiring connections at the MAIN BOARD . If good...

Inspect the wiring at the motor--remove the rear service access panel.

Remove the 17mm bolt at the center of the rotor--this can be tight as threadlocker is used (I use an 18 volt Dewalt Impact drill).

Pull off the round shaped rotor. Use some care--this rotor has magnets lining the inside of it--it's not super fragile but can crack if hit sharply.

Inspect the two plug connections to the motor for loose or frayed wiring. Also inspect the wiring which runs from the base (bottom) of the washer-to-the-motor. Once or twice--I have found wiring frayed from the gyrating tub assembly (repair as needed).

If no obstruction such as a nail or similar object can be seen in the drum (small holes in tub)...if the drum turns freely by hand--the most likely fault will be the MAIN BOARD has failed.

This job is very simple:

Remove (3) screws at the top of the control panel.

Pull the control panel towards you & upward.

Remove the screws that attach the MAIN BOARD to the Display Board. Install new MAIN BOARD.

Is it worth repairing a 5 year old washer? How much is the main board? Thanks,
    Tony

Hi,

CE stands for " Over Current Error".

The cause according to the book is

"MAIN PWB ASSEMBLY is out of order.
• Winding in the STATOR ASSEMBLY is short-circuited.

The door will not open until after you drain all the water out. There is a little access panel on the bottom of the front panel you can open and unscrew the cap to drain the water out if you like. As far as the CE error goes, it's generally the board itself that is bad. You can pull the unit forward and remove the back access panel to look at the motor on the back of the outter tub. If water is leaking on it or you see anything burnt then you may have a bad stator, but in generally it means you are going to need a new main control board.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The machine is 5 years old. How much is replacing the part/board plus labor more or less for us to make a decision regarding replacement vs just buying a new one.? Could you give an idea?

  • z_zarraga May 12, 2010

    Are you still there?
Can you give me suggestions. Isthe expense of potential material and labor worth the service? How much, more or less? At 5 years of age...is this too young to give up or too old?
    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks for your response!!

I would give you a General Idea, that if the Machine is more than 5 years old and the Cost of Repair is more than half of the Amount of the New One, it is better to get a Replacement than to get it Repaired.

Few Years ago, i remember, LG used to charge $75 Visit charge plus the Cost of the Part which makes the total around $200 - $300.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks

    Thanks for your response!!

No Doubt you could Consult Other Experts. I checked the Cost of the New Control Board and it is $144 for this Model.Adding Labor it would be around $225.

Usually the Average Age of Washing Machine, depends on Usage and the Condition. Take it 7 Years on an average.

You could Google ' Lg Washer CE Error ' and you would be Surprised that How many People have the same issue's with this Series.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

LG Tromm WM2277HW drum was noisy, then wobbly and now has stopped spinning

Remove back cover and check for a loose nut that holds the rotor. you may have to replace the rotor( is the cover that holds the magnets). Not the stator (which is the motor.)

"LG Tromm WM2277HW will not

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

LE error in your LG front load washer is displayed when either the motor is not working or the control board thinks that the motor is locked up. A Hall effect sensor is used in these washer which monitors the speed and direction of the motor and then forwards this information to the control board. Hope you understand by now that this LE error is displayed when their is an issue with the motor or when the hall effect sensor sends wrong signal to the control. Conclusion is you'll have to check both motor and hall sesor and replace the part# that is bad, usually I have seen the sensor going bad. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

LG Tromm WM2277HW during high speed spin makes noise

I had exactly the same symptom...grinding noise only during high speed spin cycle.

I took the top and back panels off to see how the drain hoses etc. connected. Not wanting to take it apart further, I eventually just took the washing machine outside (I knew I was going to be dealing with water!), pulled the debris catcher front side bottom, and let rip with a garden hose inside the drum with the catcher out (leaving an open drain that could flow unimpeded).

Water flowed quickly out of the open drain, and lo and behold, a small drill bit came out with the water flow. This bit, presumably had gotten through the drum grating, and was resting on the bottom of the housing, scraping and grinding when the drum was spinning.
