Question about Philips 107E56 17" CRT Monitor

Blank display on the Monitor when connected to main system

No response video display, when the monitor is powered on, except the following message "check the monitor input cable". The cable attachment to the main PC system looks OK to me. I have several years of experience repairing and servicing conventional TV's but non working on Computer monitors

Sounds like your monitor is bad. Try another monitor because if the video card was bad and the monitor is working you would get a No Signal message on the screen. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor does the same as your original monitor and does not display anything, then there is an issue with your video card.

Screen is blank and power indicator is off

The monitor is possibly not receiving power. Perform the following steps to fix the problem:
  1. Ensure that the electrical outlet and the monitor are both switched on.
  2. Check that the power cord is firmly plugged into the electrical outlet and the power supply unit.
  3. If the power cord has a removable fuse, replace it.
  4. Try another power cord.
  5. Try another electrical outlet.
  6. Check the power connection at the back of the panel.

The monitor is in the Power Management Standby state. The power management feature is invoked when the computer recognizes that you have not used your mouse or keyboard for a user-definable period. Perform the following steps to bring monitor out of the power management state:
  1. Press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse to restore operation.
  2. Check the Power Management software on your computer.

Display mode of the computer is outside the range of the monitor. The display mode the monitor uses is controlled by your computer. Therefore, you should refer to your computer's documentation for details on how to change display modes.

The image size, position and shape may change when the display mode changes. This is normal and the image can be readjusted using the IMAGE SETUP and the monitor controls.

Note: Unlike CRT monitors, which requires a high refresh rate to minimize flicker, TFT technology is inherently flicker-free. If possible, configure your computer for 1600 x 1200 addressability at 60Hz vertical refresh rate.

Use the following table as a guideline and reconfigure your computer to use a supported display mode. The highest resolution (for example, 1600 x 1200) produces the optimal output, but limitations of your monitor may prohibit this setting. Adjust the addressability mode until an image appears.

The monitor is not receiving a video signal. Perform the following steps to fix the problem:
  1. Check that the signal cable is firmly connected to your computer
  2. Check that no pins are bent in the signal cable connector.
There are noises in the video signal. The IMAGE SETUP function is used to adjust the level of noise in the video signal which causes horizontal lines or areas where the image appears to be unstable and jitters or shimmers. This can be done automatically or manually.
Note: It is not applicable to digital input.
Use the image setup fix the problem:

  2. Select Manual to adjust CLOCK/PHASE settings.

The color setting may be incorrect. Perform the following steps to adjust the color settings:

I have an hp pavilion dv5. When I power it on the computer starts up but the monitor doesn't come on. And then it does this series of beeps. Beep beep beep. It does that series 5 times


Before you begin
Check the following items before using the steps in this document:
•If you have a flat panel LCD monitor, unplug the monitor power cable, wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the cable and then turn on the monitor. This resets the electronics on the monitor.
•Make sure the monitor has power - the light on the monitor is on. If the light on the monitor is off, the monitor does not have power. Connect it to a different power outlet.
•If the monitor has a detachable video cable, obtain a second monitor cable for testing purposes in case the cable is bad.
•Disconnect all connected devices except the mouse, keyboard and monitor. This includes thumb drives and camera-type memory cards from card reader slots.
With the devices disconnected, restart the computer. If the computer starts and the monitor now displays a picture, a device is preventing the computer from starting. Update the BIOS to resolve this issue.
Step 1: Connect the computer to another monitor
Connect another monitor to the computer to determine which device has the problem (the monitor or the computer). This step is very important to help you determine if the problem is coming from the computer or the monitor. If necessary, temporarily connect the computer to a friends monitor for troubleshooting purposes.
After the monitor is connected, turn on the computer and the monitor. What happens?
•If the newly attached monitor does not display anything , disconnect the cable and continue at Step 2: Is the video connection damaged?
•If the newly attached monitor displays the first startup screen(s) but then goes black, there is a problem with Windows starting. Skip to step 5 .
•If the new monitor works , the original monitor or its cables are faulty. Do the following:
1.Replace the monitor power cable.
1.Turn on the monitor. If the monitor displays an image, you are done. If the monitor remains blank, continue using these steps.
1.Replace the video cable.
Turn on the monitor. If the monitor displays an image, you are done. If the monitor remains blank, continue using these steps.
1.If the monitor does not work after replacing the cables, replace or service the monitor.
Step 2: Is the video connection damaged?
Inspect the video cable and video connectors for damage. Check for sharp bends or breaks in the cable and bent or broken pins at the connectors. With the monitor and computer off, try to straighten bent pins with a small metal tube, like the tip of an empty mechanical pencil or the tip of a retracted pen.

If you had to straighten any pins, reconnect the monitor making sure that the video cable is firmly connected and then turn on the computer and monitor. If the display is still blank, continue to the next step.
Step 3: Resetting and updating the BIOS
You can use these steps even though you will not be able to see anything on the monitor.
In case an item was changed in the BIOS, such as the primary display device setting, use the following steps to reset the BIOS back to its default configuration:
1.Turn on the computer and repeatedly press one of the following keyboard keys. Press the key about once every second for 5 seconds after turning the computer on.
◦For HP and Compaq computers that came with Windows 7 and Vista, press F10 .
◦For HP and Compaq computers that came with Windows XP, press F1 .
◦For Compaq Presario desktop computers built prior to 2002, press F10 .
1.Wait another 5 seconds.
1.Press the F5 key. This restores the default settings of the BIOS.
1.Press the Enter key. This accepts the changes.
1.Press the F10 key. This saves the changes.
1.Press the Enter key. This saves the changes and exits from the BIOS.
1.The monitor should display the first screens received from the computer (the logo screens). If not, find and download the latest BIOS update if one is available for your computer.
1.If a BIOS update was not available or the monitor is still blank, continue to the next step.

It can be that your PC video resolution is set higher than 1024 x 768 @60Hz for the monitor to display correctly.

When the video card signal exceeds the frequency allowed for the monitor, the following error message may occur: Sync out of Range SOLUTION: To avoid the message, lower the resolution or vertical frequency of the video card. Reboot the system and use the VGA mode to force the video card driver to lower its resolution. Follow these steps.
  1. Shut down and restart the system. For consumer systems such as HP Pavilion desktop PCs, push the Power button once. For commercial systems such as HP business desktop PCs, hold down the Power button for five seconds.
  2. Immediately after seeing the HP/Compaq logo screen, press F8 at system startup to initiate the bootup menu.
  3. Scroll down to highlight Enable VGA Mode , and press ENTER .
  4. After Microsoft Windows completes its bootup process, access the Display Properties and select a desired resolution, which is compatible to the connected monitor.

I did not see anything regarding to the Power locked out function, may be it's time to call HP. Please post back what you find out from HP.

Locking OSD settings
When the OSD is locked, settings cannot be changed in the OSD menu. The OSD functionality is enabled or disabled by pressing the Menu button and holding it for 10 seconds. Upon disabling the OSD, an OSD Lock-out message is displayed for 10 seconds. When the OSD is locked and an OSD menu button is pressed, the OSD Lock-out message is displayed for an additional 10 seconds. When the OSD is locked, pressing the OSD menu button for 10 seconds unlocks the OSD and displays the main menu. Identifying monitor conditions
Special messages display on the monitor screen for the following monitor conditions:
  • Input Signal Out of Range : Indicates the monitor does not support the input signal because the resolution and/or refresh rate are set higher than the monitor supports. Recommended refresh rates are as follows:
    • For the w1858 monitor: 1366 x 768 @ 60 Hz.
    • For the w2338h monitor: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz.
  • Monitor Going to Sleep : Indicates the screen display is entering a sleep mode.
  • Check Video Cable : Indicates a video input cable is not properly connected to the computer or monitor.
  • OSD Lock-out : When the OSD is locked, the warning message OSD Lock displays for 10 seconds.

These messages are normal when the computer truly goes into suspend mode or loses the video signal (such as when the computer is suddenly turned off).
If the monitor displays any of these messages when the computer should be displaying video , do the following items until an image from the computer appears:

1.
Ensure the computer is really sending a video signal. To bring the computer out of suspend mode: move the mouse, press the spacebar, and press the suspend button on the keyboard twice (the suspend button has an icon that looks like a quarter moon).
2.
Ensure the video cable is connected (and connected to the correct video port).
3.
If you are trying to view video from a set-top box, DVD player or similar device, use its menu system to set the proper video output channel so that it matches the video connection are using. For example, if the monitor is connected to a satellite receiver via a second HDMI connection on the back of the receiver, select HDMI-2 (or similar) using the remote control for the receiver.
4.
Turn off the monitor using the monitor's power button and then restart the monitor.
5.
Cycle the power on the monitor as follows:
1.
Turn off the monitor. The power light on the monitor should be off. Leave the computer turned on.
2.
Unplug the power cord.
3.
Wait 5 seconds.
4.
Plug in the power cord.
5.
Press the power button on the monitor to turn on the monitor.
One of two things happens:
1.
The image from the computer displays on the monitor and you can use the computer again. This indicates that the monitor was unable to detect that the computer had awakened from suspend mode. Turn the monitor off when it is not being used or disable suspend mode. For some computers, updating the BIOS corrects these types of suspend problems.
2.
The power light on the monitor comes on but the screen displays one of the messages again. The monitor is not receiving a video signal from the computer that it can detect and use. Continue using these steps to adjust the Windows display resolution to the Monitor's native (default) resolution.
6.
Adjust the Windows display resolution to a setting that is compatible with the monitor:
NOTE: The native resolution setting for your model of monitor can be found in the Monitor User Guide, the monitor's product packaging, and product specifications.
1.
Restart the computer and press F8 repeatedly after the first logo screen.
2.
Select Safe Mode .
3.
Windows should open showing a Windows desktop with lower resolution and fewer colors.
4.
In Windows Vista, click Start , Control Panel , and click Adjust Screen Resolution in Appearance and Personalization.
In Windows XP, click Start , Settings , Control Panel and then double-click the Display icon and select the Settings tab.
5.
Move the slider bar until the native resolution for the monitor is set, click OK and restart the computer.
6.
If the native resolution is not available from the slider bar, click Advanced Settings , click List All Modes (from the Adapter tab), select the resolution, and click OK .
If the native resolution setting is not available as a selection in Windows, you can temporarily use 1024 x 768 to complete these steps. However, you should update the graphics driver on the computer. Updating the graphics driver can provide more display resolutions to Windows; possibly including the native display resolution for the monitor.

Connect the monitor to another computer that you know is working to determine if the monitor should be serviced or replaced:

If the monitor displays an image from another computer, you know that the monitor works. Troubleshoot the video connection and graphics adapter on the computer.
*
If the monitor remain blank when connected to another computer, the monitor signal processing hardware may be bad. The monitor should be repaired or replaced.

Can't find video signal


If screen says "Signal cable not connected " all the time till power led switches to Amber chances are monitor is ok and problem is with graphic card or cpu.Connect to Known working CPU and confirm that monitor is the problem.
If same problem persists on another working cpu after changing signal cable,the interface board in the monitor could be defective.

Check signal message when data cable unplugged. blank screen when data cable plugged


This problem is most likely to be caused by a bent or broken pin on the CRT video cable at the VGA connector, OR, this could also be caused by a damaged VGA connector on the back of the laptop. If neither VGA connector is at fault, the problem could be caused a damaged (kinked) CRT data cable, or internal damage to the VGA connector on the back of the laptop, though I suspect the problem is more likely to be external, and you probably won't have to disassemble the laptop to locate the culprit...
