Question about Yamaha Rx-v365 A/V Home Theater Receiver

1 Answer

Can't connect Digital Optical Audio cable to receiver

Trying to connect AmazonBasics Toslink Digital Audio Optical Cable from a Samsung BDP1600 to a Yamaha RX-V365 and the cable won't fit into the receiver. I align it with the shape on the receiver and press it in firmly, but it does not click in. The receiver input looks slightly different from the output on the blu-ray player. Am I using the wrong cable or doing something wrong?

The TOSLINK optical connector is almost aquare and should be the same on both blue-ray and on the receiver. There are 4 orientation you can try and only one fits. Blue-ray can have the connector installed rotated, but it should be the same connector.

Looking at the cable at Amazon I can see that it is the correct cable. If it really doesn't fit, maybe you have damaged cable or damaged connector. Try the other end of the cable and/or other optical input on the receiver.
BTW there is also combined analog/optical jack connector. It looks like normal jack socket, but accepts also optical signal. But this is not called Toslink and usually is not used in home theatre devices.

Got a sony to and surround sound system works fine but when I want to screen mirror my phone to tv I have to turn surround sound system of to get volume? Please help

Assuming that the TV is the device that is recognizing the phone you may have to route your spdif (optical out) via optical cable to the back of your surround amplifier as a separate input to the surround system. You'll be able to select this audio through the surround receivers remote. Just note what the Optical input was named on the back of the surround receiver. The reason you have to do this is that the 'Smart' Tv is what is recognizing the phone's bluetooth or DLNA address so the video and audio are going to the tv. The only way the surround can play the audio is via the TV's optical output. Optical cables are really cheap on Amazon.com. This one is $6 and will work flawlessly if the surround receiver is less than 6 feet away. http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Digital-Optical-Audio-Toslink/dp/B001TH7GSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425292532&sr=8-1&keywords=Spdif+cable

Does the LCDVD326A have the ability to attach headphones? If so, where are the connections?

First of all, here's the manual:
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/CUR_LCDVD326A_EN.PDF

Refer to page 11. Apparently this set only has audio input connections (as analog audio) It does have an audio output but it is digital audio. you can't just plug in speakers or headphones, you need an adapter to convert digital to analog.
If you're a techie and want to know about SPDIF, look here:

You will need the converter:

and a cable to connect the adapter to the TV (choose the length you want)

AmazonBasics Digital Optical Audio Toslink Cable 6 Feet 1 8 Meters

they don't make it easy, do they?
Good luck

I'm trying to connect my LED samsung tv to my pioneer amp M-L11 using the digital audio output. Can you tell me please if my stereo system should be able to be support my tv so that i am able to h

Pioneer Amp input is analog. if there is a headphones out

( no model for Samsung LED TV) , connect it , not using your

Fisual Digital Opitcal Toslink Cable.

If you really need to use the TV digital out you may need a Digital

to Analog converter , to be connected on Pioneer XC L11 Aux Input .

Optical is Out only for that model.

I have a new samsung 40" led tv and i have

The specs say that it has an optical audio in on your home theater system. So the easiest way to hook up is to connect the optical audio out of your tv to the optical audio in of your home theater system and walla! What ever play on the tv will play on the home-theater system. You are looking for a Toslink optical audio cable

My system is connected to DIGITAL HD Receiver through V2 and audio through Toslink ( Digital optical cable). at times sound dose not come only Video comes, can you explain the reason. Reg

Well, audio is on toslink and video isn't. Optical cables are susceptible to signal degradation if routing involves any small-radius bends.

At the rear of the Yamaha, on the left side, you will see 3 connectors for Digital input - the 2 one is specifically set for an HD tv / DTV. Buy a optical cable like

and connect it between the tv output and the receiver then select it as a source from the menu . Now you will have sound.

Can i connect my b&w zeppelin to my samsung led 9000

Yes you can connect them via a Optical Toslink to 1/8 Mini audio cable. They are very cheap on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-27016-Velocity-Toslink-/dp/B0002JFN1A/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1294156147&sr=8-15
But double-check your connection types before ordering.

I want to connect my Macbook Pro (Mac OS 10.5) with my Onkyo Receiver via Toslink optical cable. How could I do?

Hi there,

There is an optical cable that you can buy. It needs to have a MINIPLUG on the one end and a standard Toslink on the other. This will give you the digital audio out of the MacBook Pro.

A company called Proel make the cable you need in varying lenghts.

Hope this helps

Denon AVR587 Setup

red/white/yellow = composite
red/green/blue= component video cables + audio cables needed

the red/white= stereo audio

the denon 587 has 2 optical (toslink) inputs and 2 digital coax. These are surround sound cables basically, it's the only way to get true 5.1 dolby or dts.

connect cable box, and the samsung to the sony using hdmi. then connect the cable box and the samsung to the denon receiver with optical cable. And that's it.
