On a gas model dryer those coils seem to die when heated when they have a little age on em. So if the ignitor works and the dryer does a little bit of heating then fails and it is gas then those coils are the problem. On an electric model the element will get brittle with age and die but if your dryer is suffering from air restrictions it may have had a limit trip on it.
Does the dryer heat at all? turn you dryer on for about 1 minute then open the door, any heat? yes= check to be sure you venting is good and clear. if good then you have 2 common issues i would check first. the thermal fuse could be blown or the gas valve coils could be bad. give me you model number and i can give you more suggestions of what to check and how
I presume she pushed the start button again. Can you hear the motor running? If so, it's a broken belt. The door switch can fail anytime. If the dryer started ok later, the motor was overheated. Lighter loads will avoid a lot of problems, and the dryer will probably work better.
There´s a sensor inside that controls the temperature in order to prevent overheating. Mostly they work with resistance. Oxydation can influence the resistance value, as like as some fluff. Second option: you have perhaps not only one heating coil, perhaps one is not working.
