The LS 2208 symbol bar code scanner works on bigger font 39 barcode labels so I know the scanner works. I need to know if it should be able to scan a font size 3.5 3of9 barcode. If not what is a solution?

It should scan any code bar no matter the font ...cause those are on the standard used for all bar code scanners..So if it do not scan it ..it is just a one case exception and those that print it is to blame ...anyway try to reinstall the driver and look on the manufacturer site for updates...maybe its a newly standard and there are updates available..
Also try more than one code of the same font to see if some of them have imperfections or something ..

    The greatest
strength of the LS2208 lies in the scan engine designed by Symbol. In
testing wide barcodes, we were able to get it to read barcodes 7”
wide, with about 50 characters encoded. For density, our LS2208 was capable
of reading barcodes as small as 4.9 mil, excellent for retail use. This
scanning robustness means the LS2208 will easily scan any barcode you
will encounter in general use, and has the capability of scanning more
complicated linear barcodes as needed.Light resistance
is the bane of a barcode scanner’s existence, and the LS2208 is
no exception. When scanning from a standard range of 4 inches, the scanner
could not easily read barcodes in direct sunlight or with our 250w spotlight
within 12”. The LS2208 does act as a contact scanner, which can
eliminate the problem, but only for barcodes about 1.5” wide.

this is the actual text :
    If further configuration
is required, the LS2208 comes with a quick start guide to change some
basic functionality of the unit. A full configuration guide as well as
scanner configuration software are available both at POSGuys.com and Symbol.com.

So check the guide..also on the manufacturer site for special settings that will enable it to read them ..if still will not be able..it means it is either damaged or they just brave out when said it can..

by the way ..it did say that failed some tests on some colors...maybe this is to blame ..and not the actual font.or size..

if it is just one it may be the possibility that it has an issue or is damaged or something ..cause from what it is said in the review it should read it ...try to enlarge it ..or something ..if you need to store the info in something ..

  • What are GTIN, GTINs, GS1, GS1-US?

Starting in 2005 there was an introduction to a new barcode type, the GS1. The GS1 is a new name for EAN International and GS1-US is the new name for the UCC or Uniform Code Council. The new barcodes are GTIN barcodes UCC.EAN-13, UCC-12, UCC.EAN-8. Which are variants of other barcode types.

Are both EAN and UPC necessary on products sold in North America?

Starting in 2005 both Canada and the USA require to have both EAN and UPC barcodes types label on products being sold at a retail level.

How small can my barcode be?

IT Depends on the barcode type you're using. For EAN-128 and code 3of9 it is recommended to use 8 millimeters or 3.2 inches. For UPC, the dimensions cannot be an less then one inch in width. If your barcode is too small the scanners will have a hard time reading them.

How do I get a bar code number for my product?
If you plan on selling your product to end users at store level through a distribution channel, retail, you'll need the UPC barcode type. If not, the barcode type is determined by the industry you're selling to o.

How do I get my Symbol LS2208 to recognize EAN128. I need it to prefix [C1 when a EAN 128 is scanned.

you need to scan some of the bar codes found on the manual.
Find the product reference manual -usually found on the cd with the scanner or download from motorola site - and in chapter "symbologies" scan "ENABLE CODE128" barcode.
To have prefix when a code is scanned, scan "SCAN OPTIONS" then " then "ENTER"
Last set the preffix value by scanning "SCAN PREFFIX" then four digits that correspond to the character you want to use as preffix.
If you need more than one character for preffix then you will need the Advanced formatting manual, which ican be downloaded from motorola. In this case you need to create a "rule".

Let me know if you need further assistance

How do I disregard the last character on a UPC bar code?

In general you can create an Advanced Data Programming Rule which will say: If you scan an UPC barcode, please send only the first 11 characters of the barcode.
There are programming barcodes in the manual for the scanner or you can use the 123Scan2 application provided at support.symbol.com to create the rule and print out an config sheet.

Hi, i am trying to configure my barcode scanner LS2208 to put a {TAB} in when scanning

There should have been a sheet or book of bar codes that came with your scanner. These codes will allow you to program your scanner to do most anything, including adding a tab. You simply look at the bar codes and read what they do. you simply scan the one that adds a tab and it will forever add the tab unless you re program it.

If you have lost your book/bar code page, you should be able to go to the manufacturer website and download/print a document with the programmable bar codes.

What is the bar code for the tab key

Hi paulajoy. I believe I can help, but I'm not sure what you mean. What are you trying to do? Configure your scanner to put a {TAB} keystroke in when scanning? Or are you just looking for the code for a {TAB} keystroke? If you are just looking for a code to identify it, the ones I know of are: ^I for Character, 09 for dec, and 09 for hex. If you're trying to configure your scanner, let me know and I'll be happy to help you find the right barcodes in the manual.

I have symbol LS2208 handheld, Keyboard Wedge what is the setting to make my handheld recognize "Ctrl + S" ? I have tried this but still not work : *1st trial : Enable Convert to Code 39, Enable Code 39...

If your barcode is $V scan the following barcodes from the LS2208 Product Reference Guide.
Begin New Rule
Specific String At Start
$ (from the Alpha-Numeric section of the guide)
S (from the Alpha-Numeric section of the guide)
End of Message (from the Alpha-Numeric section of the guide)
Send Control S
Save Rule

That should do it.
