Question about Jenn-Air JED8430 Electric Cooktop

1 Answer

I presently have an original 30" Jenn-Air cooktop which was installed in 1995. I believe it is a model C1200C, C2000C, C2200C, C3200C, CR 2200C series from he use and Care Manual that I have. The vent grill is in the middle with the controls on the right side. I have 2 elements on the right side, and I can put a grill or griddle on the left side. I believe it is radiant heat- where the element heats up and glows very red and then drops down to nothing. I am trying to replace this unit which is built into granite, without having major repairs and am having some difficulty. I need to have the opening width 31" in overall measurements, not cut-out, and the depth needs to be 21 and one eighth". My installer found one that would work and it is called the 31" Expressions Corrections Modular cooktop. I do want glass, not metal element. Can you help with the BIG problem? Thanks so much May McConaghy

Thank you very much. You were very helpful, even though I had hoped to find a cooktop that was not metal.

Wonder if this meets your requirements..hard to understand difference between 31" overall measurement and not cut-out.

Though I am not sure if the down draft feature will fit your existing cabinet.

I think your installer has found

http://www.jennair.com/assets/product/CVEX4270B_Dimension%20Guide_EN.pdf
which is with metal element.

But you will need to be sure the cut-out size is consistent with the granite profile that you have.

The Jennair cooktops are also compatible to Maytag and Whirlpool cook tops - you may find a match.

I have a Jenn-Air radiant cooktop, two of the burners run on high no matter where the control knob is set?

This is usually the infinite switch has failed. They are easy to check and inexpensive. Here is a video that will walk you thru testing an infinite switch. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations for your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

The Grill side on my electric cooktop doesnt seem heat up enough

I had the same problem with the 45" Jenn Air downdraft cook top. The installation of the ductwork from the stove to the outside of the house was not properly installed. The stove is appr 18' from an outside wall and the flow of air was hampered by
too great a bend in the ductwork at the point below the stove on the underside of the house and the pipe going to the outside wall. I believe that was corrected with more curve in the vent work, making for a smoother flow of air. Make sense?

I want to replace my Jenn-Air cooktop model 89890. What is the easiest replacement cooktop?

Greetings!
I tried to look up your cooktop and only found it mentioned in several places, and thus did not get a complete description of your unit. What I got leads me to believe that yours is a downdraft model. Whether or not this is correct, you'll need to measure the underside (cutout) measurements of the cooktop and the physical dimensions of your unit within the cutout. Armed with this information, you should be able to make an informed decision. I recently replaced a Jenn-air (downdraft, with switchable cooking modules) and selected a GE profile modle JP 989SK1SS (stainless steel). We also considered Frigidare, Jenn-air and some of the higher enders as well. Our preference boiled down to features, keeping all of the appliances (mostly) in the same brand, and reliability. Ours swapped out very close deminsionally, and the installation was easy and neat. Decide on a brand. Most dealers have a brochure that list all of the critical dimensions of their appliances, and you should be able to decide what's best for you.
Hope this was of some small help. Regards, and good hunting!

Just installed a new Jenn-Air Model JED8430. Burners work well but fan will not turn on. Two black wires and a ground coming out of my wall....presumedley no neutral. Any suggestions

I suspect that the two black wires were attached to a wall switch or a wall times, along with the ground.

Check to see if you have a hot wire there. then temporarily wire the two black wires together and see if the fan comes on, i believe it will.

Yes. Buy a burner module. Sears sells them also most appliance part stores. (I am assuming you have the model with 2 knobs on the grill side) The electric version of burner modules is around $100 Gas should be similar price.
