You will need to check if the output supply going to the lamp is good. If not the ballast will need replacement. That model is actually famous for haveing ballast issues. You can get the replacement ballast from www.tvcircuitboards.com they also assist with installation assistance if you require it.

HI,

Make sure the lamp cover is in place as it has a plunger on it which closes a switch . If the switch is open you will never power on. With the cover remover you can manually activate the switch too and it will power up.

For more troubleshooting steps you can see the user manual from HERE

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Hi.

It is probably a defective ballast board or a faulty PSU. The ballast is the high voltage power board connected to the lamp. The PSU is the board that supplies power in different voltages to the other internal parts. One of the DC lines from PSU goes straight to the ballast. The repair is done testing the voltage from PSU to ballast. The job must be done by a technician.

It looks like you have a weak ballast issue this is a common problem with DLP sets, this ballast board starts to wear out with time and use the lamp needs at least 150w 12vdc to turn on and if your ballast board only feeds it 120w or 130w it will not be able to turn on another thing that this ballast due is gather enough energy ( 150w ) to turn on the lamp then get weak again( 120w ) and can't maintain the lamp on and turn back off

Toshiba 52HM84 Ballast replacement help

It is very easy to fix/reolace the ballast in these sets. I just fixed the ballast in mine yesturday,by replacing a single resistor on the ballast board (the resistor is labled R3 on the ballast), Google "Toshiba ballast replacement" and there is a nice write up with pictures to guide you through it. If you can soulder you can fix it and save alot of money.

Changing lamp ballast

jobustquest,
Email me privately and I'll be glad to send you the service manual - just make sure to include the model number and what it is you need. I get more than 3000 emails a day and they're very hard to keep straight.
The real question to ponder about calling the "service guy" is when he's done with the job he's likely to go home unharmed. Whereas you touch the wrong thing at the wrong time in that HV circuit and you're not likely to come home again. Us "service guys" not only spent years of education learing electronics 101 we have ongoing training seminars, conventions and manufacturer class instruction to keep up on the latest technology. I'd strongly recommend you have the tech do this one and live to say "I could have done that." Besides the damage you could do if you cross wire the ballast.
