Question about Microsoft Zune JS8-00001 Digital Media Player

I did a Microsoft recommended software update on Monday - it worked fine on my PC, then failed to update on the device during step 3. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Zune help desk. The bottom line is that they say it's a hardware problem - send it to the service center and pay $180. to have them look at it. It's only 1.5 yrs. old - very upsetting! Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi! Try this.

Restart the computer. Disable your antivirus software. Close any other software like Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger that would eat up resources. Make sure that you are directly wired to the internet. Redo the update.

Note: While you are doing the update do not browse online. Remember that you have your antivirus disabled while updating.

If this still does not work. Take note of the error message and send it to me.

    Jubert - followed your suggestions. The PC is up to date on softeare. Tried to update device - getting error code COOD124F - unable to sync because not enough space on the Zune - need to delete items. I can't delete because I can't do anything with device. Help!

    I see. Try to clear everything first then update it before syncing it all back. Go to Zune software settings then device then sync options. Then look for the button to erase all content.

    Getting the same error code when I try the update.. I did what you said, but when I got to the sync options, the software didn't recognize that the device was connected, so I couldn't get past that screen. What now?

    Have you tried hard resetting your device? To clear out all your data on it? How many gigs do you have on your zune?

    Ok. To do a hard reset on a zune: (Better read the full steps first because some steps need to be done right after the other)

    First, make usre that the hold switch is unlocked. Then you Press and hold the back button and the top portion of your zune pad. Hold it until the zune begins to turn back on then release the buttons. Right after that you have to quickly press and hold these 3 buttons at the same time. The, back button, the zune pad, meaning right smack at the middle of the zune pad and the play or pause button. Hold them until it restarts and say "Please wait".

    To make it easier to do, place the zune on top of a flat surface.

    After that check if you no longer have any data on it like songs and so on.

    Open your zune software and disable syncing first. Then connect your zune and update it again.

    Did the hard reset, the screen acknowledged that it was clearing information. When done, it asked to be connected to PC and restore Zune device firmware. Started the update and got the same response as before - same error code - not enough space on device. What now???

    I'm sorry to say but it is as the microsoft guy feared. This may already be a hardware issue. Hard resetting is actually the last resort. For any issues with regard to space and other problems. Seems that your hardware still detects it being full. One last thing to do is to just allow to your zune to lose its power totally. Do not turn it off.. just allow it to lose power. That way everything will be refreshed as well. If that does not work. Then you may really need to have your hardware be checked up as this is no longer a software or firmware issue.

Connection to update server failed, error code 12152 for Bookkeeper updates


A lot of people seem to have had major problems trying to upgrade for this software. Some have spent many hours waiting on the phone, and decided to move to different software.
"Dog Lover" offers this guidance:
If you are updating your software follow carefully (1) first back up your database and email to yourself (2) wipe bookkeeper completely off your computer (3) download the newer software and install the tax tables (4) finish updating (because it downloads to a newer software version within 2011) the program. When everything is updated, (5) save your database to your desktop (6) open bookkeeper and restore your database. Then make another update with the upgraded database.
Lets hope it is still true for 2013/14

Decided to upgrade my software on my roadmate 1440 to ver 2.05 Rel 3. Process appeard to work fine except during the transfer to the roadmate my pc threw a delayed write error message. when this happened...


this is one of the perils of updating a magellan.

it sounds like the update has not taken. i suggest (if you havent already) you try the update again and if that fails, call magellan for a free replacement or repair.

Magellan will repair or replace any of their gps units rendered inoperable do to one of there updates regardless of the warranty (i assume you got this update off there site, because they will ask)

Hi Anand

Practically speaking i spent 3 hours looking for your solution but nothing much even the BB intelectuals failed .Try these steps out it may resolve the issue and lets hope for the best .

This error : 373 : Device Error means that the Timers are corroupted

1. Remove the battery for at least 5 minute.
2. Make sure u have working SIM card, other wise remove the old SIM.
3.You should receive an Hour glass spinning. Give a few minutes, after that u will see a 507 message on the bb screen, (which means there is no app loaded on the bb)
4.If this dosent work
Use application loader to wipe handheld clean and reinstall base software but do backup your data

first of all you need to install the software..these are the steps to install the software please follow the steps below

The custom install allows you to choose what software to install. The recommended install is designed to work for most users. Use the custom install only if you have one of the following reasons:
  • Low hard disk space on the computer.
  • You do not want the additional software.
  • Errors occur during the recommended installation. NOTE: If errors occur during the recommended install, fix them before doing a custom install.
Recommended install Complete the following instructions to install the software: CAUTION: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted to do so during software installation. HP recommends using a USB cable that is less than 10 feet (3 meters) long. NOTE: Choose unblock or accept on all firewall messages or the install will fail.
  1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer starts automatically. NOTE: The User Account Control screen might display. Click Continue .

I'm recieving a strong signal on my stiletto 2 but no sound on the radio. The MP3 player works with headphones and so does internet radio.


You need the firmware upgrade from the Sirius website:

How to Get this Release
Updating over WiFi:
Subscribers may update Stiletto 2 over WiFi by following these steps:
1. Power cycle the Stiletto 2 by holding the power/lock switch down for 5 seconds
and releasing.
2. Turn on the Stiletto 2 and press the HOME button
3. Use the MEDIA DIAL to scroll to Internet Radio
4. Press the SELECT button to connect to Internet Radio
5. Tune to your favorite station and let it play for several hours.
6. Follow prompts on screen to complete the update, then power cycle your radio to
apply the updates.
7. Next go to HomeSettingsDeviceDevice info, if the baseband version is
already 00.14.94 you are done. If not, continue to the next step.
8. Reconnect to Internet Radio and listen for at least 15 minutes.
9. Disconnect, and tune to Satellite Radio. Updating Sirius will be displayed for
approximately 5 minutes.
10. Once the message clears, your update should be complete. Go to the Device
Info screen to verify the update has been successful.
Updating using My Sirius Studio™:
Customers without WiFi access may update using My Sirius Studio™ running on a PC
with an active internet connection:
1. Launch My Sirius Studio™ on your computer. Be sure you are running the latest
version of My Sirius Studio, currently version 1.5.1.
2. Power cycle the Stiletto 2 by holding the power/lock switch down for 5 seconds
and releasing.
3. Turn on the Stiletto 2 and connect it to your computer using the USB cable
supplied with your device
4. In My Sirius Studio, click on the gear icon next to the device or go to File
Device Settings Check for Software Update.
5. Follow the instructions that appear in My Sirius Studio™ to complete the update.
Please Note: During the update, your media library must be re-built. If you have a
large amount of content stored or a microSD™ card installed, the process can last
for as long as 10 minutes. During this time the message “updating media library” or
may be displayed.
6. After disconnecting from your PC it will be necessary to power cycle your Stiletto
and connect to Satellite Radio to refresh your channel list.
