How to test if the water sensor (inside the machine) is working or not:

  1. make sure the 'water empty' light is blinking
  2. remove the tank.
  3. to locate the 'sweet spot' grab a strong magnet from your refrigerator and press it against where water tank floating sensor would rest when the tank is full.
  4. watch the blinking water empty light, and drag the fridge magnet around until the blinking light turns off.
  5. if the blinking light never turns off, you're cooked. Get a new machine, or hope your warranty is still good.
  6. if the blinking light does turn off, you have options. replace the watertank to get a new 'floating magnet' is what i recommend. Hopefully under warranty. Otherwise, it's probably $15 plus shipping. which is $100 less than a new machine. congrats

I will tell you how i fixed mine for this next health warning only, just to stop people from making a mistake: Never ever ever put a fridge magnet inside water you drink. ever. Ever.
  1. I overrode the switch for my TAS4511UC/01 by putting a fridge magnet between the coffee machine and the water tank.
  2. to be very clear, the replacement fridge magnet is on outside of the water tank, between the watertank and the 'sweet spot' for the sensor. This overrides the switch.
  3. One more time: do not put a fridge magnet inside your water tank. Order a new water tank if you're stuck, or go by a new coffee machine. Never ever ever ever put a fridge magnet where it could, would, or might think about accidentally touching the water you drink for an extended period of time.

Couple of things.

Magnet in the water tank could have gone bad in which case you need a new water tank.

2. Sensor for the magnet could have gone bad. Which case you need a new sensor.

3. Flowmeter could be dead in which case it won't feed water to the system, If thats the case its a new flowmeter.

4. Pump. If the pumps not working, it won't feed the flowmeter, which in turn won't feed the system. You'd need a pump in this case.

Its one of the 4. Unfortunately its not an exact science, its a trial by error type thing.

Cheapest way is to send it to a service center. They'll know right away when they open it up. They can also diagnose quicker.

When i discale my Z5 the machine stops after cleaning the caputower and then stays in his programm and doesn't go fearther. What can I do to make the programm go to the end.

Be sure to measure up the correct amount of water before starting up the descaling program. It should be 600ml. Then be aware that the program takes about 45 minutes, and is in two steps. The first 35 minutes is for the 600ml in the watertank. You will then be asked to empty tray, and fill watertank. You can now fill up the watertank with fresh, cold water. Then the machine will complete the program (about 10 minutes) with fresh water, rinsing the system.

So; Be accurate in measuring the correct amount of water (solvent)-600ml
and be patient, this takes about 45 minutes.

We have a Solis Mater 5000. The machines says that the watertank is empty even though we have water in it. The machine will not work at all with this message.

I have same issue. I just used toothpick to make sure the water path is clear under the watertank, and also rapidly pushed the valve at the bottom of the tank a number of times. Some one of these two has worked, in that the Empty message has gone. I think this is not a permanent fix as the message was intermittent for the last few weeks before becoming more permanent. Still, I have some hope now for a day or so more. I don't think its fixed permanently but at least it seems not to be something totally internal. Had a few cups of coffee and it seems to work OK for now.

Hi
The magnet in the water tanks is either upside down or has sunk to the bottom of the tank. It should float to the top of the cage it is in and it should have a flat top not rounded. If its rounded side up the magnet is upside down. This is what would cause your problem.

Screen says 'Fill Watertank' when watertank is clearly full.

Sounds like the sensor that detects system water levels has failed.

If you can see it inside try cleaning it or ask Miele for some advice via their website

We get the message Unit Cal.Fied - what to do?

You need to run the Decalcyfying program. Push and hold the button with the symbol that looks like a tube with small dots inside. You will get the message empty tray and empty grounds. Do so, and put everything back. The message Solvent or Agent in tank will be displayed. Meassure up 700ml water in a container, put 3 Descaling tablets in the water and let it be completly desolved before you pour this into the empty watertank. It`s very important that you don`t use more liquid, this will make the program run forever. When the solvent is in the tank, push the buttoun again, and the program starts. After a while (20 minutes or so) you will be asked to empty tray/grounds again and to fill the watertank. At this point you can fill up the watertank, this will not affect the running of the program. In the end, you must empty tray/grounds again, and after this the machine is heating up and ready to use. Good luck!

Machine says malfunction and won't froth milk

If you have a rotarywheel; Press and hold to enter the menu, turn to Maintenance, select Decalcify unit; empty tray as requested, fill up 600ml water in a container. Disolve 3 Descaling tablets in the water, and then fill it in the watertank. Press Maintenance button and you`re off.

If you don`t have a Rotary; Turn off the machine and let it cool down for a while, then push the Rinse/Maintenance button for a few seconds; then you will get the message Empty tray. Fill the solution in the watertank and press button.

It`s important that you use the right amount of water, or else the process will "never" finish.

Fill Watertank Message

The black thing floating in the water tank is a plastic shell with a magnet inside. If you clean it...make sure you reinstall it with the tapered (smaller) side down. There is a slight size difference BUT it will make ALL the difference in the world.

I had no idea there was a magnet in that black/greyish case. The direction of the casing is important.
I had the same problem and that solved it!
