My optoma is projecting white spots onto the screen. They seem to just appear. Some have began by 'sparkling' for a while and then they stay white perminantly.

If it is a DLP projector then the DMD on the engine is likely bad or the main board is bad. The white things are pixels.

I have the same problem and after reading this Solution 2, I looked thru the lenz onto the mirror up close and can see the dust particles there. The problem is how to get to the mirror to clean it off. I just used compressed air but it did not help. I will have to tear into the unit I guess or pay $85, per hour for our local repair guy to do it. There are 4 screws to remove the top cover.

could be either or both. We had same problem, tore apart projector, cleaned all 3 prisms and every mirror... still had spots. looked like a starfield. removed dmd chip board from behind projection lens, starfield is on there. still trying to figure out how to replace w/o costing more than the projector is worth...

i have the same problem - took apart projector, cleaned it, no use still starfield. Checked the lamp and saw tiny dots on the glass of the lamp; on the inside. Guessing new lamp would fix it i am going to buy one soon I'll write back.

I had the very same problem, swapping the dmd chip made it like a new projector.

Vivtek d510 projector has black and white spots covering 1/3 of projected image

The DLP Chip is failing .The DLP or Digital Light Projection Chip contains up to 8 million tiny microscopic mirrors that tilt to project a digital image onto the screen. These mirrors are failing causing light and dark spots to appear.Unfortunately fixing this projector is probably going to cost more than buying a new one. Hope this helps.

1,white spots appeared on screen, means the DMD is broken, you need a new DMD.
2,the projector running off after only a few minutes, means the Inductor (Sensing element),near the Color Wheel. Use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol to wipe the Inductor.

Hi, I have a projector Optoma EP7155 and it appear white and black spot like dead pixel, I would like to know where I can buy a DMD chip with the CCD and how much it will cost. Thank you

global projectors is one source. You need to find out from Optoma the chip you need or take apart the machine and look at it. From China they run about 200 bucks. I've only done Mitsubishi so far.

No you have to change the DMD chip. It is mounted on the back of lens system.

Hi,

I noticed you have a DLP projector. I have a Optoma EzPro 756 which is also a DLP projector.
I notice white "blobs" on the screen when there is a black screen. It is caused by dust getting into the optical block not the lense. If you are comfortable with opening up the projector, you could gently blow out the optical area with compressed air, GENTLY so you don't dislodge any components, and see if that helps. I seems to be a common problem with DLP projectors a few years old. If there are sharp focused dots on the screen then most likely, it could be some pixels starting to go bad like dead pixels on a computer screen. That problem is pretty much irreversible.

Hope this helps,

I have white dots appearing on my samsung dlp.

If the white spots are appearing in different spots or "Moving" it is the DMD board beginning to fail. Samsung DLPs seem to have a lot of DMD board failures. I would expect it to completely fail in the next couple months.

If there are only a couple small white spots that never go away it could be a mirror that is seized on the chip, but it's far more likely that the DMD board is going bad.
