How do i upgrade my system to windows 7

Sony has yet to support Windows 7 on the VAIO VGC-RB42G. I would strongly suggest not to try to install W7 on that machine. Sony is a _very_ proprietary equipment. There is a very good chance that you won't be able to obtain the neccessary drivers nor W7 having the correct drivers available. Generic drivers don't usually work on Sony equipment and vice versa. If you are determined to try it, it would be best to contact Sony first: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=CONTACT

That said, the first step to upgrading any computer to W7 is to run the upgrade advisor:
http://windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor

The next step, especially for a Sony is to visit the website and check for software upgrades and possible BIOS upgrades that are needed _before_ installing W7. In your case I would contact them directly.

Be sure to back up all your data. Copy it to CD's, DVD's, an external hard drive, or a flash drive, or another internal hard drive.

I am trying to find the manual for this Board. D915GRO/d915PRO/D915gvro

The D915GRO is an Intel motherboard.
It is a bit unusual because it seems they were specifically made for Sony.
However, most of the information that applies to other Intel D915 motherboards applies to this one.

A standard configuration comes with 250 GB SATA hard drive.

You can install a higher capacity hard drive such as the one in the following link

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=301

The cost will be around $65

I need the recovery software to fix my PC Sony Vaio VGC-RB42G

Hi,

You can try to check if there is a partition on your hard drive where you can restore the original default software installed in the computer. And if your computer doesn't have that partition you can contact Sony and request for a copy of the recovery disc. If you have registered that computer the first time that you got it, you can request it and just pay the cost of shipping.

What type of hard drive goes in a VGC-RB42G.....SATA or PATA

Hi JG78 - If you bought the stock model of your PC it originally came with a SATA 250GB drive. SATA drives have a faster transfer rate so if your PC can handle it ( and it can ) then you definitely want to get a SATA drive. Make sure you back up any info, documents, pictures, etc on cd's or dvd's. Or when you install the new drive you can just make your old drive a secondary drive and transfer the info you need to save before you remove it. Also be sure you have all software and drivers you need before you install the new drive so you won't have the hassle of having to locate them later. If you need to download them you can put them on a cd so they'll be ready to go. If this answered your question PLEASE rate this as fixed. If you need more help or assistance with this just add a comment and I'll be glad to give you a hand. Thanks.
