First make sure your mic is good this could cause you not to hear or transmitt if its bad. Then if you have an external speaker take it and plug it into your PA jack key up your mic, does it squeal if so then its not your IC chip if it doesn't it is your IC chip it will have to be replaced. Also make sure your speaker is good.

I have a cobra 20 ltd and i cued it up with a break in my antenna wire, and now i have no reception, but i have power

Replace the antenna wire.

If that does not fix it, the RF energy that reflected back blew out the transmit section of the radio and the receive section.

Reception is very poor. Grounding issues? Please

Reception has little to do with grounding. The ground plan is for transmitting. As long as the coax is connected and is in good standing, it should receive fine regardless of grounding.

There are a few reasons you may have bad reception.
  1. Turn the RF GAIN all the way up. This is your receive sensitivity.
  2. Squelch is too high. It should only be turned up enough to cut out the background noise.
  3. Poor antenna. If the antenna is cheap, and not made well, this could be the problem.
  4. Not enough of the antenna above the vehicle. It needs to be at least 60% of the antenna above the vehicle.
Hope this helps!

What Voltage Does The cobra 25 ltd classic use?

12 volts, around 15 amps. For a base station, try an Antron-99 groundplane antenna.

Cobra 25 LTD - building causing a shadow area

The older base station was probably peaked and tuned by a CB shop, basically giving it a lot more power. Stock radios very rarely have a full 4watts of power, to tell you the truth. Mine now does 5 1/2 watts and swings to around 20 when I talk. Might be a good investment. Oh, the antenna can't be too big for any wattage. Might want to recheck the antenna's tuning, though...

The truckers wont pop the fuse at all, but I might recommend backing your RF gain down some when they are that close so they dont burn up your receive.

No reception

Open it up,
check your speaker connections.
Check your antenna connections, Radio & Antenna
Check inside your mic connector for a broken solder joint on one of the pins. Otherwise, it could be a bad audio chip.
Maybe even a break at the antenna connector inside the radio.
If none of these, Radioshack has a reasonable repair service on many radios, cobra is made by uniden, who makes radioshack radios as well.
