As I responded last night the replacement of a thermal fuse is a very difficult task. The component is mounted on the lamp cage and require a great deal of disassembly. If you pull the back and the pull the center brace you will see a harness of wires. From the lamp cage you can follow either two black wires or a black and gray wire to where it has a coupling plug in said harness. Suggest a qualifier servicer to perform this task. The part can be purchase from Andrews Electronic.

Hi This is most likely the inverter panel that drive the CCFL's (Backlight tubes) or the backlight tubes themselves, I'm afraid I can't help with the diagnostic test or service menu.

My Sony Grand Wega KDF-E55A20 will not turn on with the remote or manually. The red light flashes 6 times then off.

6 times is the lamp thermal fuse or lamp. its a thermal that sits on the bottom of the lamp area.
remove the fan and you will see the siler disk with black base cut the wires and slide the new one in on the side secure it on the old thermal and your fixed.

Screen turns off and on Sony KDF E55A20

It is symptom of dying lamp and tv requires new lamp.
Existing lamp in tv has reached to end of its life span and causing that problem. If lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years, just put new lamp in tv to get it back in business.
Thanks.

The sony model KDF-E55A20 has no sound or picture. The power led flashes red six times consecutively after being turned on.

Your thermal fuse has popped and needs replaced. This TV has a service bulletin regarding this issue. You should contact Sony for the replacement part/kit.

Were is the thermal fuse on a sony KDF E55A20

The CORRECT way to replace the thermal fuse is to pull the optical block out so you can get to the thermal fuse mounting plate. I would NOT suggest just letting it "float out in the open cool air" as some have suggested as this is a safety part and not installing properly could be a safety hazard

There are two senerios to this. It is not possible to tell which one is the true one without investigating in to the set and doing some checks for the cause.

There may be a cold solder connection on one of the boards. When disturbing the TV set from any kind of vibration you made it temporarily make contact.

The other thing that can happen is that there is a part that became thermo sensitive. When turning off the set it cooled down a little and then was able to work until it warmed up again.

The set would have to be properly troubleshooted to locate the exact fault, and then service it. You should take the set in for repair.
