Question about Dell Vostro 1500 Notebook

DELL Vostro 1500 causing many problems...

Hello,

Bought Dell Vostro 1500, which came with Vista installed. I have removed Vista and am using Windows XP on it.

Now, I'm facing following problems. Wonder if these problems are related to using Windows XP on this laptop... and, wonder what could be the reason.

  • Cannot extend to secondary monitor. It gives an error.
  • Often gets "NTLDR missing" error... re-installing fixes the problem.
  • ProTools: Play on Spacebar doesn't work (no response) occasionally... occurs everyday.
  • ProTools: Doesn't bounce (mix down) till completion... occurs several times.

  • Would really appreciate your inputs and suggestions.

      Thank you for responding so quick.



      All the drivers has been installed successfully, with no device item in the Device Manager displaying yellow alert mark.



      The Windows XP installed is Service Pack 2.

      the problem is that dell no longer supports windows xp for the vostro 1500 on their site - so the drivers are nowhere to be found. unfortunately, thwe company i work for still uses xp for all of the work machines... making things very difficult for me. i need the audio drivers for the vostro 1500 and can't find them ANYWHERE.

      i've instaled xp on my new vostro 1500 and now i am trying to install the drives. i have some problems like can't find an audio and modem drivers and also no usb seems to work.
      i would really appreciate any help i get

    For using xp you must have the correct drivers. These should be available for download from the Dell support website. You may also find updating windows xp will help you may be using service pack one, so make sure all updates are done.

    If you have to load drivers you should load the chipset first followed by the graphics then the sound. Check on your hardware list under system in control panel that there are no conflicts.

      maybe your hard drive is faulty - bad sectors - download hard drive fitness test - from drive manufacturers website.

    Are you using a full version retail or OEM copy of WIN XP to install? Or is it a recovery copy from another PC or laptop? You will need to use a full version disc to perform the retrofit. You will also need to download the WIN XP Drivers for your laptop from the Dell Site. You CANNOT "upgrade" install WIN XP over VISTA and keep your drivers, settings, files. Performing a WIN XP install will require a total wipe of your hard drive. Therefore you will have to save off all your personal files before you do this. Microsoft doesn't provide assistance for downgrade-type installations, so you must basically wipe your hard drive and then reload the OS.

    Hi Vostro owner.Dont worry,this can be sorted.Sound issue is not because u installed windows from a Non-dell cd.But i would ask to call up dell because they will provide u the XP disc that should have come with the system or even it is lost from you.Also then we can download the driver from support site : www.support.dell.com and install it.It is just a mere coincidence now.But the reason i'm asking to get cd from Dell is so that u can avoid any future problems with installing XP from a non-dell cd

    Win vista uninstall


    Put your window XP disk into the Disk drive. Start up your computer. When it asks you what Drive you want to install it on select C:\ (where Vista is) Say yes to deleting the current Operating System and follow the instructions from there.

    You did say you wanted to Uninstall Vista!

    If you mean Dual Boot Vista and XP, then you will need to create a Logical Partition of about 10 Gb to install XP on and when asked where to install select this partition. But note that XP will wipe the Boot sector clean of all other Operating Systems which means that if you want to Dual boot then you will have to reinstall Vista again to get Dual Boot functionality.

    There is a solution on these Dell Models.

    Go to Start>RUN and type in MS Config

    Go to the startup tab and uncheck the PCMServices.exe

    Restart the computer, and it should fix it.

    Cant re-install windows vista to my dell vostro 1700


    Did you try the repair option again, this time just choose repair. If not you need to clean install the computer. You can go the microsoft site to get full instructions for "Clean Install Vista"

    Dell Drivers XP drivers for vostro 1400 ..


    Did you download the latest audio drivers from Dell.com? If not here is the link to the drivers for that device based off Vostro 1400 using Vista 32 bit Edition. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&osl=EN&catid=3&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=VOS_N_1400&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en Hope that helps.
