Question about Kicker SX1250.1 Car Audio Amplifier

I have an sx1250.1 with two dual voice coil 4 ohm L7 12's. i am just wondering what i should set the settings too. my head units output is 2.5.

To revolveri, You need to turn your head unit up to about 3/4 of the way up the set your input gain of your amp or amps to the point where the output is distored, then turn it back down a little till the distorion is gone. Then adjust the other settings to your liking. It's a good Idea to keep your lows, mids, and highs crossed over correctly so you dont miss out on any of those frquencies. It's basicly how you like it to sound, it's your car and your system.
To jasons247, when that happens try going into the diagnostic mode to see any trouble code faults. This amp will store fault codes then I do beleive in the manual you can look up those fault codes for the problems. If you can't get into the diagnostic mode then your amp needs servicing like it says. If you have a warranty use it if not take it to a repair shop and have them trouble shoot it, They will charge a bench check charge to see what's wrong with it, so find that out first. If they do figure out what's wrong with it chances are they will charge you big bucks to fis, but find out first. If you need it repaired at a cheap price I repair car amps everyday and have repaired 2 of these amps that had blown output transistors the other amp is a different story. A guy shipped me one from Ohio, and the other guy shipped me the amp from Wisconsin. I don't charge like the other online repair shops do. I have my own shop and have 2 degrees in electronics. I have a young man from E-bay that sends all his broken amps he buys from auctions to and I repair them. He pays for parts and shipping both ways. I just keep track of what I fix for him then if I need some mone he puts it into my pay-pal account or if I see something I want from his store, we wor out a deal. I tell you this just to give you some insight as to what I can do for you. This paticular amp you do not want to try and repair yourself. That's what happend to one of these amps I repaired, the kid tried repairing it himself and I had to order a board from kicker to fix it cause of the digital circuitry it uses. Wiring a crossfire vr602 at 4ohm


OK what you are saying now is that your speakers are dual voice coil; models? 4 Ohms per Coil? I have always used single 4 Ohm Voice ciol speakers since amps are mostly based on 4 Ohm outputs. but you can get 8 Ohm dual voice coil subs also. With 8 Ohms per coil you can get 4 Ohms if you parallel the wires. What is best for you and will get you the most stable power and still will be in the specs of that amp is to run the amp in BRIDGED MODE running each subs voice coils in series with each other then run those 2 subs in parallel to the amplifier giving it a 4 Ohm load. So, your will have two sets of wires from your amp 1 for each speaker. Then you will take a short piece of wire that will connect the + to the - of each voice coil then hook up the wires from your amp to each sub What it will be is 4 Ohms + 4 Ohms = 8 Ohms per speaker the 8 Ohms in parallel each speaker to the Bridged amp output using just the + from one channel and the - from the other will give you a total of 4 ohms and power out put of 600 Watts so that ends up being 150 watts per voice coil or 300 watts each speaker

I just bought two rockford fosgate t1 twelves duel voice coil 4ohm I'm running a old school alpine v12 1507 mrv 2channel. I want to bridge the amp to get the most out of these subs would it be better...


Hi there,
This amp should run comfortable at 2 ohms/channel. However, your dual voice coil subs are rated at 4 ohms. This means when you connect the 2 voice coils together in parellel (positive to positive and negative to negative both coils wired to one output) the amp will see 2 ohms. So if you connect both subs to one output then your amp will see 1 ohm (not good) If you run the voice coils in parellel but the subs in series then the 2 resistances (ohms) will be added together. So that way the amp will se 4 ohms. This is fine but the amp would push more power into 2 ohms. You can run one sub on each channel if you can split the head unit output to 2 outputs, problem is then you will be halving the amount of power to each channel. Personally I would probably be more inclined to run 1 sub on this amp and run another amp from the pre-outs on the first amp for the 2nd sub. Try to find another amp the same to run the second sub. Mind you, 2 of these amps will need some big power cable to run them but should shake your teeth out!

I have a pioneergm-d8500m amp and it stopped working and the green led just flashes.. i bought a new amp to replace it and it just does the same thing.. what is going on to cause this


crossed speaker wires or loose strands creating a short circuit, improper speaker ohmage or a blown speaker.

verify that you dont have any positive strands coming in contact with negative strands/terminals, the amp case, the speaker frame, or any metal part of the car chassis.

verify that you only have a 2 ohm load connected to the amp. most car speakers are 4 ohm (siginfied by the greek letter "omega" on the back of the spoeaker magnet, or in the speaker specifications), but some are 2 ohm and/or 2 ohm x2 voice coils per speaker. 2x2 ohm coils/speakers would produce a 1 ohm load, which would cause the amp to overload, and go into "protect" mode. to achieve a safe load, you need to use 1x4 ohm speaker, 2x4 ohm speakers or a dual voice coil speaker with 4 ohms per coil x2 voice coils, wired in parallel.

you can also achieve 2 ohms with 2 speakers with 2x2 ohm voice coils apiece (that is, 2 speakers, each with 2 ohm voice coils apiece, 2 speakers with 4 voice coils altogether of 2 ohms apiece) by wiring the two coils per speaker in SERIES, and then wiring the two speakers circuits in PARALLEL. wiring the coils in series means connecting the positive lead of one coil to the amp positive, then connecting the same coils negative to the positive of the second coil, and finally connecting the negative from the second coil back to the amp negative terminal. if you wire both dual voice coil speakers in series, and then connect both series circuits back to the amps positive/engative, than you have the coils in series, and the speakers in parallel- achieving an overall 2 ohm load from 4 total voice coils between 2 speakers.

NO BASS!!


1) Check the Subwoofer for continuity - At the subwoofer, one at a time, test the terminals for Continuity using your Digital Multi-Meter; if your DMM doesn't have a Continuity test, use the Resistance, or Ohms, test and check for Resistance in the Subwoofer Coil (be sure to disconnect the subwoofer wiring before performing these tests).
2) If they test out good, hook the wires back up and test the terminals at the terminal cup or at the Amp hookup if you didn’t use a terminal, don't hook it up to the amp yet. Sometimes the wiring inside the box can be a problem if it has come loose, or isn't making a great connection.
3) If you have a Sub or multiple Subs with Dual Voice Coils, or multiple Subs with Single Voice Coils, make sure your wiring is correct by checking here:

4) Make sure there are no Hi-Pass filters, crossovers, or multi Channel switches enabled.
5) Replace your RCA cable/s with known working RCA cable/s from the Source/Head Unit to the Amplifier/s.
6) Check your Head Unit settings; make sure the Bass is turned up and/or the Subwoofer setting is turned On.
7) If you are still getting no or low output, try plugging in an MP3 player or CD player using a headphone to RCA adaptor and check for sound output. If there is still no or low output, your Amplifier outputs are probably burned out.

Why does the kenwood kac-9103d has two sets of terminals if its a one channel amp so how do i hook up a dual 12 phoniex gold 1200 watt sub to it


Hello damasogrizzl,

The 2 sets of terminals are connected internally. Having 2 sets just makes it more convenient when wiring multiple subs. The amp is rated for 900 watts RMS into a 2 ohm load. The specs claim that it is stable at 1 ohm but does not give a power rating.

The Radial SD competition series from Phoenix Gold are rated to handle up to 600 watts RMS. If you have the model RSdC124 with dual 4 ohm voice coils, it would be best to wire the voice coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load and connect the sub to one set of terminals on the amp. If your sub is the model RSdC122 with dual 2 ohm voice coils, you should wire the voice coils is series for a 4 ohm load and connect the sug to one set of terminals on the amp. Wiring the voice coils in parallel will result in a 1 ohm load. And, while the amp may be stable at 1 ohm, the sub will be seriously overpowered.

Wiring options for amp


Te dual inputsm are tied together on the output side thus having a "MONO" amp. Most class D anps are stable down to 1 ohm (check your manuel) therefore, 2 2ohm subs are a 1 ohm load. 2 DVC (dual voice coil) 4 Ohm on each voice coil will give each sub a 2 ohm load so 2 dual4 ohm V's will give you a 1 ohm load as well. Parrallel all conections.

What subs do you have? Is this amp 1 ohm ono stable?

Infinity 1600a cuts out wit real low bass when turned up load



With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp (not on the point where the ground wire connected to the vehicle), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage drops below ~11 volts on either terminal when you drive the amp hard, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is dropping too low.

Dual voice coil wiring to class d amp


The easiest way to think of wiring voice coils and subs is this:
  • Two items of the same impedance in parallel = Half of the impedance
    • 4 ohms in parallel with 4 ohms = 2 ohms
    • 8 ohms in parallel with 8 ohms = 4 ohms
  • Two items of the same impedance in series = Double the impedance
    • 4 ohms in series with 4 ohms = 8 ohms
    • 8 ohms in series with 8 ohms = 16 ohms
In this case, you want to wire two subs, each with dual 4 ohms voice coils, so that the total equals 2 ohms. Your options are:
  • DVCs in parallel, 2 subs in series = 4 ohms
  • DVCs in series, 2 subs in parallel = 4 ohms
  • DVCs in parallel, 1 sub = 2 ohms
With two, dual 4 ohm subs, you can only have 1 ohm or 4 ohm total impedance.

wiring may not be the problem but try connecting each coil to separate channel and make sure polarities are correct.

Amp Problems


You are probably presenting too low an impedance load to the amplifier. In bridged mode the amp must be connected to a minimum 4-ohm load. If your subwoofer is a dual voice coil type with 4-ohm voice coils, you cannot wire the voice coils in parallel and connect it to the bridged amplifier. If you have a sub with dual 2-ohm voice coils, you can wire the voice coils in series and connect it to the amplifier in bridged mode. To connect voice coils in series: Connect a wire from the negative terminal of one coil to the positive terminal on the other coil. Connect the unused positive and negative terminals to the amplifier's output.
