The function of a scanner is get the picture. To convert the picture to document file you need a OCR software. I don't know if this software is included in your printer software.
If it is already in your printer software but it does not work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall, or there might be an error in setting the "scanner".
But if it is not in your printer software, you have to install it.
The best is omnipage, but it is too expensive.
For simple document, you can use the free one. Choose from this two webpage:

Dear Sir, Recently, I have purchased a MF4320d Canon printer. The problem is this that the scanner of the printer is not scanning the text (OCR). Whenever I tried to scan some document in world it ask...

the scanner will always scan the documents as JPED or BMP, its the OCR software in your computer which will convert it to editable text.
if you dont have any OCR software then you can open the scanned image (TIFF) in microsoft office imaging software (something like that) and click on the W (Word) icon on the top toolbar to convert it to text

How to scan documents and save them as jpg Format as default instead of tiff?

On some copiers, there is an option to scan as JPG. Press the Scanner function key on the left, and look for a button on the screen that says something like "Scan as file type." Press this button, and if that copier can scan JPG files, you should see the option there. Otherwise you might have to scan as TIFF files and then use a program like Microsoft Office Picture Manager to convert them to JPG images.

Scannanning of two pages in one document

There is a couple of ways to do this.
1. Scan each page and use an Optical Recognition Program to convert each page into a text and then place the text into a Word document.
2. Scan each page and save the images as a JPEG file then open a blank Word doc file and place each image on a separate page.

How do i use my scanner

If you have loaded the software for the printer/scanner.
Go to your HP director Icon and start this program.
you should see your Scanner / printer listed under Select device.

You can place a document/picture in the document feeder on top.
OR you can place the document / picture directly on the glass.
(Lift the hinged lid to reveal the scanner glass)
Don't worry the document feeder uses a different scan wand.
Now document / picture in place select the Scan document or Scan picture icon from the HP director. Depending on which type of document you have placed in / on the scanner.

Scanner should warm up then scan presenting you with a preview image. From here you can decide what and where to go.

You are not limited to just the HP director.
Other applications can use the twain source to activate your scanner software. This will transfer the scan to your application.
Irfanview is a prime example. Image viewer that will let you "Acquire" and image from you scanner. Be sure to select the twain source.

Good luck!

Scan a Document and Need to edit in Word 2007

Most of the time a scanner by default, will scan a document in a tif or other image file format. That means that the scanned image is actually very similar to a photograph. In order to edit the text, you first have to convert the image using something that's called OCR software. OCR is a process that the software uses to look at a scanned document image and determine what characters are on the page. It's not always very accurate but that depends on the quality of the scan and on the OCR software being used. You must have received some sort of scanning software with the scanner. Hopefully it containes some sort of OCR software. Some scanners will save you this extra image manipulation by having a setting that allows you to scan directly to a word document. Usually in that configuration, the OCR software automatically knows to convert the scanned document image in order to automate the process. But either way, you first have to install the manufacturer's software. Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Email scanned docs

You don't. Scanners save everything as a Picture. Test is not text, it is a combination of thousands of dots that make up a picture. It takes an OCR and very complicated software to read text from a picture.

Scanning docs & size of pdf files on Mac w/HP l7680 All-in-one

The scanner produces a "picture" of the document, much as if you laid it flat on a table and took a picture of it with your digital camera. If you did this, your .jpg from the camera would be several hundred K at a minimum - comparable to the file size off the scanner. That's why the file is so big, it contains a picture and not text data - even though it's still a .jpg file.
If you reduce the scan resolution you will save space, but at the expense of legibility of the document image. To get it down to the smallest possible size, you will need to run the scanned image through OCR ( Optical Character Recognition ) into a Word document for example, and then print it out to a .pdf file. If you have a clean source document with few graphics this isn't as difficult as it may seem. Microsoft Office has an excellent OCR process known as Document Imaging. You need to carefully proof read the result but with a clean input Document Imaging is amazingly accurate in Office 2007.
In short, there is no easy solution to your problem.

Setting the format of the picture i scan

Ok I am not sure why ya scanner won't save in JPEG .. however converting the files to JPEG is relitively "Simple". After saving the Scanned picture.. Open it up in say MS Paint, Painshop etc, then simply choose "Save As.." from the File Menu, and save it as a NEW image file this time with a JPEG extension. IE: origional... picture.png or picture.bmp ... save as ...picture.jpg .. ya should be good to go. :)
