Should have bought it at BESt BUY, they offer multiple year warranties, no need to worry about damage, they will replace the item for whatever reason it is not functioning,, My suggestion, bring it to the GEEK SQUAD at BEST BUY, Then decide if it might be worthwhile to upgrade to a newer model and get the fool proof warranty protection,,,

There are still some Film affectionados out their,, try googling camera sales and service in your area,,, lots in the Boston area, sure their are some qualified old school techies still willing to help you with you problem....

My cam does seam to zoom right

Check the settings. If that's not it one of the lenzes might have been nudged/pushed in or out a bit. If that's not it you may just have a lenze that was cut wrong...maibe some one replaced it with the wrong lenz.

Camera in zoom mode and won't retract. We get a message "zoom error". What can we do to fix this?? The camera is Fine Pix E510.

This is uselly a result from dropping the camera. It needs to be sent off to be fixed. If you wount you can try to rotate and push very gently when you turn it no. to help it get back on track. but do this at your will. I have do it on a camera before that i didnt care if it broke or not.

Camera fell with lens open and will not close now. I have tried turning it on and off, but it still won't close.

Sorry, but this is bad news. The drop likely damaged the lens tube (housing) or jarred the zoom mechanism off of its track. There is no DIY fix, and attempting to repair it yourself will likely make the damage even worse. The camera needs professional repair.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here:

Zooming in.

Your camera jumped out of gear. Open the front metal cover and disassemble all arm working with the main motor gear and try to reposition the red dot on the big gear with the small gear side by side. Presto now your camera is aligned. Place all arms back in order to your new got your self a working camera. D: 3403 3404 mean error = some thing is block your lense and stopping the motored gear. For future referance don't drop the camera agian, next time it might be a expensive fix next time around.

Zoom and shutter not functioning

that is a symptom of being dropped and stuck in a mode.
it requires total dissemble of the camera to fix or replace the lens. your lucky it takes pictures at all. most cameras refuse if the lens is stuck.
