Printer problem My printer keeps flashing the message to remove the carridges and check them. I do not want to print to this printer, I only want to use the scanner. Is this possible? By the way, the cartridges look fine.

    I have removed and replaced the cartridges several times. It doen't help. Thanks anyway!

    experienced identical problem today 2nd april 2008. Removed both cartridges and re re-seated them several times but the mesage to remove and check still continues. Replaced the black cartridge 56 with a photo colour cartridge 58 but the message still continues. The problem only started when I attempted to print something offline. i.e. computer was not turned on. However, having turned on the computer and tried printing somthing online, the message to remove and check remains.

    Could this have anything to do with the recent "updates" HP downloaded to my computer running Windows Vista ?

The cartridges in your printer might be loose or not snugly fit into its slots. Try removing them then return and fit the cartridges to turn off the flashing message.

The printer will not scan or print properly. An

E represents error
so make sure you try some resets like
disconnecting all the cables from the printer and keep the printer idle for sometime
so there could be issues on the cartridge or on the hardware of the printer so
check the cartridges
if empty (replace them )
if dirty clean them with a clean cloth
then check whether if there's paper jam or carridge jam
if so try to remove the jam
remove the jammed paper from the back of theprinter

All the lights keep flashing --won't print!

I removed the black ink cartridge that was REFILLED at a popular retail outfit and replaced it with a remanufactured one I bought on the web. As soon as I closed the lid, the flashing stopped and it has been working GREAT ever since. Many postings had already recommended the changing to a "new cartridge" to remedy this flashing lights and "pen failure."

Take out the power cable from the back of the printer keep on tapping the power button for 30 secs ; then plug it back.
Take out the catridges clean them with a Lint free cloth (copper contacts); also clean the catridge slot of the printer; put in back the catridges ;
Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer; press and hol down the (#) and the (6) button simultaneously with one hand and with the other hand put in back the power cable; and then release the (#) and (6) button;
It will perform a reset on the printer
IF still then it doesn't work then the catridge slot's copper contacts has gone bad and need to replace

ERROR MESSAGE : 0502

Hi gtiedith, sometimes the carridge just gets stuck. Leave the lid open. Power off the printer. Clean the carridge metal rod with a tissue. (Just a little wipe should do it. Than grab the carridge & slide it to the right about 2 inches. Close the lid & power on the printer. It should be just fine. Print a test page if you want to.

Have a good day!

Turn the printer off. Then move the print head back to the center with your hand and turn the printer back on.

2175 printer

This is a typical error with the 2175 / 2100 series.
1.) Error comes up if ink in cartridge's ink level gets too low.
2.) The ink cartridge's copper contacts are dirty. Dirt you can't see. Clean contacts with alcohol & cotton swab's (not dripping).
3.) The carridge contact's need cleaning. (Same as above).
4.) The cartridge, (even though new, can be defective).
5.) You are using a "refill kit" of some kind to refill ink cartridge's.
6.) After 1-5, re-set the printer. Power off printer wait a minute & power back on.
