That could be caused by a sticky float valve--remove the bottom of the carb and make sure the float valve moves up and down very freely

Hi Ted, most likely the choke is not coming on fully. To fix this adjust the choke cable or if the choke is on the throttle adjust the throttle cable. Regards Phil.

Mower engines have a "governor" mechanism to limit the maximum speed. Sounds like yours has come loose. Your mower should still be under warranty, but it could be a very simple fix if you don't want to go through that hassle. Look in the vicinity of the carburetor throttle linkage -- for a rod, wire, or spring that has come loose. It would have been pulling in a direction that closes the throttle -- opposite of what happens when you move the hand throttle up to the 'rabbit' position.
If you have the engine model number, we might be able to find a picture.
Hope this helps!

22 horse kawasaki riding lawn mower will not run at full throttle unless the choke is engaged

That is not a good situation. Too rich of a fuel adjustment can wash the bores out on that engine and prematurely wear it out! You will likely need to have the carburetor linkage and plate adjusted so that full throttle operates without engaging the choke. (If this is a single lever that you slide from slow, idle speed to fast, then on to choke)

I have a briggs and stratton 14 hp ohv engine on my murray lawn mower it starts and runs good until i go to full throttle or engage the blades then it seems to flood out and start backfiring i can lower...

It sounds like you are putting it into choke mode. The choke is usually all the way up on tractors. And it will make it backfire and flood out. Just rev it high enough to work and don't go into the choke mode. hope this helps.

Cub cadet lawn tractor, ran out of gas. After

I would bet that the throttle shaft is worn and has a lot of play in it on the carburator. This is very common. The best bet is to have the carburator worked on by a small engine repair shop, or get a replacement one.

I charged the battery and there's gas in my lawn

Usually there is a combination choke on the throttle, when you put the throttle all the way up it sets the choke and once the engine fires you idle it downa little to full throttle.

Why does my lawn tractor tractor rev way up when the throttle is on slow and the choke is off?

There are several things that can cause this.
1. a broken spring on a carb linkage
2. a lean fuel condition due to debris in the carb or a restriction in the fuel line.
3. A worn butterfly on the carb allowing air to be drawn into the carb and increasing fuel flow.
4. A worn or broken spring on the engine governor linkage

Paragraphs 1 - 4 above are the most common reasons. Most of the time this is not an outrageous repair cost. But it is an expense you should incur before things get much worse.

Just my recomendations from working professionally in 3 lawn mower repair shops as a 2nd job.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Hard to start lawn tractor

I have 2009 lawn tractor that will not start (from day 1) unless I use a small squirt
of start fluid into the air cleaner area. Nothing else seems to work. The battery will run down before it starts. Once engine is warm it starts great. Love the tractor,
hate the starting problem. Elevation is not a problem in michigan.
