Motherboard problem Acer 5641-U5520A

Computer 4 months out of warranty. You can see one of the flux capacitors on the motherboard is burnt. I am trying to purchase a new motherboard. Only number I can find on board is 001D92978852. Unable to find anything or anywhere on line to purchase this board. Any suggestions?

I will suggest you to send the computer to acer service center and they will replace the new mother board. it will take some time but apart from that they will also check other things as well. you are investing money to replace yourself which can cause more problem. mother board should be the right one so that it should match with the other components of your comp. it wil cost you bit more but the factory fittings will be better than what you will do yourself and risk involved is less. you can also claim them if anything goes wrong. it doesnot matter if it is out of warranty or in waranty. dude you are paying the money and thats more important.

There should be some more numbers on the board.

Probably between the expansion slots or near the edges.

If you notice a "FEW" capacitors blown then there may be a more serious issue with the board or in rare cases the power supply itself.

A replacement board would in this case be a lot cheaper than the cost involved with a repair.

Luckily quite a few boards would fit in that case.

From a persona point of view and the fact that do do seem to have some damage it is reasonable to expect more damage to possibly the CPU itself or the RAM and maybe even other components.

To reduce the costs and provided you have both the time and some experience you may want to look at building a new machine

Cases are quite cheap and offer more expansion facilities than the acer one.
A new motherboard with CPU can also be had quite cheaply

Or you could even consider what is knows as a bare bones system.

Using that type of approach you could build the system and try the ram from your old one and if that is fine use it. Same with other internal devices.

As for the operating system if you have a proper copy of the operating system you could use it to install on a newer computer using the COA (Certificate of Authenticity) from the old one.

If you only have restore Cd's then it would be problematic (but not impossible)

I have found staples to be a little expensive for repairs so may tend to look at some of the smaller more reputable tech shops in your area.

Without more numbers etc from the boara it will be difficult to make an exact specification or suggest the nearest board.

A check on ebay may give you a few sources

I want to switch out AM 5641-u5630A graphics card for a GeForce GT 220 so that I can run two monitors. Where is the AM 5641-u5630A graphic card located? Do I plug the GT 220 into the brown female...

In this desktop the video card has been part of the motherboard so you don't remove it - you insert the new card in the brown PCI-E 16x connector, connect the monitor to it then you go in the BIOS and disable the onboard one.

If you have the system restore CDs or a restore partition you can try to do a repair install of windows through that. Let me know if you have the media or a partition and I can assist you further.

Motherboard identification

Wait, wait, wait, why you said dead, did you smell the burn from your PC? or just wont turn on. Try to remove the power chords from your PC, or disconnect from your wall outlet in 5-10 min. then turn it on. ok, or check my message below.

This is your big chance to learn to build your own PC if you are interested. Don't worry I will help you and this is fun, and I'm sure you'll be proud of your self after. Here is what you do. You carefully and take your time to do. Dismantle your PC by removing first the connector of the power supply connected to the motherboard. Remove all the ribbons too. A ribbon is the hard drive cable, CDroms and the floppy drive. Remove all of these, all wires connected to the mother board. Please take note that, the number one
wire on the ribbon is the red wire. the red tells you the number one, so remember which side is the red when you remove all the cables so that when you reinstall, place into the same position and connection. Now, if all disconnected, check the motherboard screws and unscrew it and carefully remove the motherboard off from the case and after that remove the memmories off their slots and also the CPU. Now, Go to Weirdstuff.com and look for a mother board that fits the pins of your CPU and your memmories or you could Upgrade your Pc by choosing more faster than your PC. Check your cpu label how many GHz and buy more higher cpu with the motherboard that the same memory slots, check carefully, count how many trace and how long and the grove.
