MY PRINTER IS AN HPJ5783 OFFICE JET. EVERYTHING WORKS EXCEPT WHEN PRINTING I RECEIVE A MESSAGE "PAPER JAM" AFTER THE DOCUMENT HAS EXITED. I THINK THERE IS A SENSOR OR MICROSWITCH MALFUNCTION AND I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO OPEN UP THIS MACHINE TO GET AT IT. I ALSO NEED TO KNOW WHERE THESE DEVICES ARE LOCATED.

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Follow the steps for fix HP Printer Carriage Jam

Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Switch off the printer and disconnect the power supply. Allow any residual charge to fade away before putting your hands or metal tools inside the chassis.
1. Step 2
Pin down the exact location of the jam. The three hot spots for a jam are the paper tray, anywhere between the feed tray and the print carriage, or between the print carriage and the output tray.
2. Step 3
Take off the front paper tray if the sheet got stuck while it was still in the front area of the printer. If the sheet jammed here, you should be able to see most of the paper.
3. Step 4
Pull on the sheet with both hands and steady pressure. Do not tug as you might rip the paper, leaving a chunk of it deeper in the machine.
4. Step 5
Open the back panel to reach paper jammed between the feed tray area and the print carriage of the all-in-one printer. Carefully remove the jammed paper from the machine.
5. Step 6
Use the carriage access door to reach a jam further inside the all-in-one printer. You may need to move the print carriage out of your way to clear the jam.
6. Step 7
Return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug your printer back in and flip the power switch.

THANKS BUT I HAVE DONE ALL THAT. I DO NOT GET AN ACTUALL JAM, JUST A MESSAGE AFTER IT PRINTS AND EXITS THE PRINTER THAT THERE IS A "PAPER JAM". I AM 100% SURE THERE IS NOT A PIECE OF PAPER OR ANY OTHER FOREIGN MATERIAL IN THERE. OTHERWISE IT WOULD NOT HAVE PRINTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I REALLY THINK THAT I HAVE TO OPEN UP THE MACHINE AND SEE IF THERE IS SOMETHING BENT OR DIRTY. FOR THAT I NEED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DISASSEMBLE THE UNIT. WHEN PRINTING MULTIPLE DOCUMENTS I PUSH THE O.K. BUTTON AND IT RECYCLES TO THE NEXT PAGE ETC.ETC. ALL THE FUNCTIONS WORK WELL (FAX/SCAN/PRINT) EXCEPT FOR THE ABOVE PROBLEM.

I THINK THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE SENSOR WHEN FEEDING THE PAPER. I WANT TO KNOW WHERE THE SENSOR IS AND HOW I GET TO IT IN ORDER TO SERVICE IT IF POSSIBLE. OR IS THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A MICRO SWITCH GONE BAD?

BY THE WAY, YOU HELPED ME SOLVE A PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER OLDER HP PRINTER AND THE DARN THING IS STILL WORKING.

    First, verify that
there is actually no paper jam (open all the doors, take out the paper tray,
take out the cartridges and visually inspect). Turn printer off and unplug the
printer from all cables (power, USB, etc). Try to hold it upside down and
gently shake it so that if there is any paper inside it’s removed.
    If still it’s not
resolved then clean the print head. To clean the print head take a hot water
towel with the printer unplugged and the cartridges out, clean it till the time
you see there is no ink residue on the towel.
    Please do accept the
solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

    Thanks

in the back of the printer, there is a plastic door try to dismount check if there is some thing triggers the "jam " error put it again and check, if not, try by your hand to put the head on far left side, some jam errors are from lost head position , then check the rolling rod it has plastic finger looks like half-round, if this finger is jammed and it's tip is not smooth with paper flow it will trigger paper jam
this plastic finger might jammed before and strongly removed the jammed paper which might changed it's curvature hopefully it work

HP Officejet J5780 All-in-one Injet prints a grey line down the right side of the page when copying using the automatic document feeder. It does not show up when printing; and it does not show up when...

lift the feed area and look at the small glass plate where the auto feed paper is actually scanned. That needs a good cleaning. Since the paper runs across it even a tiny little obstruction such as paper left from a paper jam or a dot of ink from that pen you used to unstick that last paper jam (maybe its just me??). That one dot turns into a line when the paper rolls across it. Clean well and the line will dissappear.

6110xi paper jam, or something worse?

Actually, the "paper jam" message can be displayed due to a variety of jam locations and other causes. Starting by looking in the back of the printer is a good first step, but you can have a jam in the front or even in the automatic document feeder (although that one should be apparent because it's sticking out the front end.

HP.com has a web page that goes into a lot of detail about where to look for a paper jam and what other conditions in your product might cause such a message to occur. The solutions are available as well. Take a look here:

Try those solutions and post back your results. Good luck.

HP OfficeJet 6110 All-In-One

To start with first try a reset:

Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet when there is still power in the All-In-One. and wait for atleast 1Min
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector. (if possible connect it to a different power outlet)
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)

Then check and see

If not try the link bellow:

Paper Jam

hi y'all -

you share a frustrating problem... error message but no apparent error (jam)! it's one that's common to many models of printers and the result of many different causes.

I've seen it when I've printed on cheaper paper, or different (lower) grades with odd surface finishes. the sensors get dirty, or the printer/computer 'thinks' there's paper stuck where none exists. I've opened/closed paper trays 2-3 times and rolled feed rollers around multiple times, then closed printer paper drawers only to have the 3rd time of doing the exact same steps be the time it cleared the error message.

there are often very tiny pieces of paper stuck in weird places in the paper path in printers, too. if you did have a jam before the message started, is every little scrap of the page accounted for? there are also hard to get to places to find paper scraps in larger printers, but I'm going to assume you're all talking about home printers.

here are a few general HP support links you may find helpful for future paper jam messages for this model of printer.

this link is for general info for this model:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&product=304535&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

this link is for general support for this model:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/solveCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=304535

here's a link addressing paper jams in general:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bud09189&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&rule=26353&product=304535

and here's one on cleaning your printer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00016484&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=304535

hope this helps a little bit for future refs. remember that using good paper helps print quality and lessens printing problems. also, when you take a stuck page out of a printer, doing so gently will help ensure little scraps of paper do not tear off paper edges and get stuck in weird spots. it some times helps to gently, manually, roll the feed rollers a full turn around in the printer, too. patience pays! -JW50
