Question about Sony VAIO VGC-LS21N PC Desktop

I'm trying to open the case on my Sony Vaio VGC-LS21N integrated desktop computer, to replace the hard drive. Any ideas how to get it open and/or where the HDD is located inside the case?

Hi! You may download the Manual HERE and see how you can take out the hard drive out from the tower. Please be cautious while taking out the harddrive to avoid any incident.

bamusicaddic, a AIO does not have a tower. If you're a moderator, you need to study up on Sony AIOs. And the manual on the Sony site tells NOTHING about opening up the machine. And the "manual" listed on this site is nothing more than a brochure with the specs. I believe this site needs some real moderation and some rreal expertise!!

My sony vaio(VGC-LS21N)crashed,I took into a repair shop, the shop told me it was the video card, but being that its an all-in-one system the whole motherboard needs to be replaced. The problem is that its...

Without a copy of the diagnostics they did, if it is the video card then they are correct. The video card is a part of the main unit (motherboard). You would need to replace your motherboard, which can be costly.

An alternative is that if you have data you want to keep is that you can put the hard drive in an external hard drive enclosure and get another laptop.

The monitor stays blank but the computer turns on fine, is it an issue with the video card or the screen? is there a way to fix this? thanks.

- Monitor plug is loose
- Maybe you only think that your computer has started. Hit the NUM LOCK key a few times, then CAPS LOCK key a few times. If you see the lights go on and off, your computer really did boot up. IF NOT, then the computer is really in trouble. In that case, unplug the computer and RESEAT the RAM modules; then try to restart the system.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Remove hard drive cover, memory cover and modem cover from the bottom of the notebook. Each cover is secured by one screw.
14-taking-apart-notebook.jpg STEP 13
Here’s how you can remove the hard drive. Remove four screws securing the hard drive caddy to the base assembly. Slide the hard drive down to disconnect it from the motherboard. Lift up and remove the hard drive.
15-taking-apart-notebook.jpg STEP 14
Removing memory modules (if needed). Carefully spread latches on both sides of the memory slot. The memory module will pop up at 30 degree angle. Pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.
Removing modem card (if needed). Remove two screws securing the modem card. Lift up the modem card to disconnect it from the motherboard and unplug cable from the side.

Hope this Helps
