When I zoom to max directly after my Cam was turned on, I can hear a click/plop just before the lens reaches the max zoom.
Also the bottom of the lens-housing has a scratch.
This scratch seems to be caused by a screw gotten loose.

Further the lens is slightly out of center (pushed upwards)

But my cam doesn't turn off when I zoom out.

    Does this equal your issue(s)?

You don't want to be having clicking and popping or grinding sounds. Call Canon and see what your options are: if under warranty, possibility of being covered unless dropped or sat on or something. if out of warranty you can still have it repaired or upgrade/replace camera for a deep discount that will include a 6 month warranty.

Hope this helps!

Lens making strange clicking noise when turned on or zoomed in.

If the noise wasn't there for 3 days and is there now, it can only get worse. I would return it for a replacement.

CLICKING NOISE

The clicking noise is the internal focus lens. The S500 and S600 are very succeptible to debris getting in the lens. Or, the focus lens was knocked out of alignment.

Zoom error on finepixA400 camera

I had the problem with the lens being stuck out. I ended up pressing gently but with a lot of force and it collapsed while making some load clicking noises, I figured that I’d busted it, but I turned it off and back on and it worked great. I know it’s not a great fix but it might work for some of you.

Frozen lens and shutter

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
