Question about Kenmore 71279 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

GE refrigerator...Model GSS25WGMD..'frig won't cool..freezer fine

GE side-by-side refrigerator...Model GSS25WGMD WW...Freezer seems to work fine...current temp 15 degrees...'fridge does not work...current temp 59 degrees. Repairman has been here three times.
Original problem was 'fridge gradually wouldn't stay cold...freezer slowly got warmer too...repairman came out...coils in back of freezer all frosted over...repairman changed a "Controller Card" and a sensor...believe it was a "defrost sensor." Freezer worked fine...fridge didn't get below 60 (still doesn't). New repairman..same company...changed the "Control Card" again. No change... Original repairman returned yesterday;... changed the "fan motor" and sensor in refrig... No change... Repairman's giving me song-and-dance that refrig might not be repairable...says might be broken wire...I don't believe either of his "theories"...the fridge just sits there no bending and twisting like an airplane...I used to be an fighter jet (Phantom)electrician...and since this is a refrigerator...not a fighter jet or rocket ship, it should be repairable.

Vent is open...I have the refrig set at 9 (max) and the freezer at 5. I believe the repairman changed the sensor which controls the damper yesterday. I don't her the fan running...yesterday after he changed the fan and the control card(that's the third control card)...I heard the fan work what I believe to be normally for about a minute...but then it just slowly decreased in speed and has never really run fast again.

check the door switche(s) as they can also be culprits in the circuit,SxS use series/parallel switch combinations and one can easily cause a problem in these circuits

  • bobwittenber May 13, 2010

...the lights in both the freezer and fridge go on and off when switch is open/closed.

I'm really disappointed in the service company. Been here three times over the past 9 days...they've changed the contol board 3 times the fan once and a couple sensors. I've had to take off of work nine hours to accomodate their schedule...they have never once looked at a repair manual or wiring diagram and they've never "shot" a wire...not one. Now they won't come until Friday...cost me $490.00 so far. I just can't believe there is something catastrophically wrong with a refrigerator that's just over 7 years old...never moved other than to clean behind and under it once a year or so. How is my thinking messed-up...???

I have a GSL25JFPA BS that the frig side will not cool properly. Repalced the mother board. t stat in freezer and thermistor in frig. Freezer works fine. Damper will open when first plugged in but closes...

Unplug the refrigerator and then plug back in. Using multimeter check between J3-1 and J3-4.
Must be done within 10 seconds of starting. You should have 6 VDC. If you do replace damper, if not replace motherboard.

GE Frig model TFX20JRBK ww with icing on freezer

I would suggest fixing it . You only have 2 parts in the defrost system . A timer , and the defrost heater which comes with the bimetal , pt . # WR51X10031 .Most probable , is the defrost heater . You will need to remove the rear inside freezer panel , and defrost the coils with a hair dryer . After defrosting , 2 screws hold each ( 2 ) heater on , ant the defrost thermostat , just clips onto the top of the coils .

GE Model # GSS20IEPA WW Fridge warm...freezer is fine

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

Model is GSS25WGMD WW No cooling in freezer or refrigerator

look for ice or forst build up on the rear wall of freezer compartment, sounds like you may have a defrost problem. this will affect temps in freezer and refrig. the most common def problems for GE are bad defrost heaters. these are model specific and fairly easy to replace your self. i got this part number form WR51X10055 good luck peyton

Frig side is not cooling.

Check if there is frost on the back wall of the freezer, if so it is not defrosting. Many GE fridges need a new defrost heater every couple of years. If it's not defrosting, you can get by for a while by unplugging the fridge and leaving the freezer door open for 24 hrs, then plugging back in.
