Question about Washing Machines
My Whirlpool LSR8433KQ1 washer stopped about an hour ago. I washed a small load with no problem. I put the second load in, closed the lid and walked away. When I returned the washer had stopped and the bin had water in it but had not completed the cycle. I turned the machine on and off and it did not start. I turned the dial to OFF and then went to the beginning of a cycle and it still did not start. I checked the circuit breaker but it was not tripped. I unplugged the washer and plugged it into another outlet and turned the dial to rinse&spin. Water came out for a second and then stopped. I plugged a lamp into where the washer was and it turne on with no problem. Is there a solution other than getting a new washer?
Check the lid switch. When you open and close the lid, you should hear a click. If you don't, then it's probably bad. You can test it for continuity with a multimeter. When the switch is activated, you should get a meter reading; if you don't it needs to be replaced.
Here is a picture of the switch assembly.
