How To connect to Windows 98

An Old Model but works nicely. How To connect to Windows 98

The last time I answered I didn't see that this was a flatbed scanner. I
simply clicked on the link and then couldn't see the details about the scanner. They are shown only at the top of the page in very tiny print,so sorry if I asked for the details about the scanner before. Windows 98 is quite an old program. I don't know how new this scanner
is but there could be some compatibility issues if it's much newer.
It's hard to answer questions about such old software because most
people have forgotten how it ran. Generally the newer the operating
system, the more easily it will be to run software. Guessing from way
back though, I would say to try this.

Need the driver for a SMARTDISK model FDUSB-B2 external floppy disk drive unit for a old Gateway Windows 98 computer

Since it is a USB device, does Windows 98 automatically load the device-driver when it is connected? If not, connect to the Internet, and run Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) and let it scan for updates. When it completes, look at the "optional" updates -- there may be a device-driver that can be downloaded.

My mothers old (very old) computer works on Windows 98. Her printer has decided not to work anymore and cannot be fixed (a Canon Pixma ip4200). The experts at the computer shop have sold her a Canon Pixma...

Best advice, return printer to shop with proof of purchase, not fit for purpose either replace with model that will work or refund monies.

Might be a good idea, if you don't mind the agro, to take poota in at the same time, so shoppie can then match printer to poota. Thats the easy way.
Alternative is upgrade poota to say XP a lot earier to use than Vista, no idea have Win7 run's yet?
Sorry can't be of more help!!

Green and yellow verticle stripes on preview and scanned images

You need to check the specifications of the old scanner. Was it designed to work with Windows 98? If it wasn't then there's little you can do to get it to work with 98. What you could do is look around for the nearest HP scanner that was the next model up after the 3200. A search of E-Bay for old scanners should come up with a cheap second hand model that still works with Windows 98.

Need driver CD for HP3740

Hi

The printer doesn't support windows 98. supported systems are:

» Microsoft Windows Vista
» Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
» Microsoft Windows XP
» Microsoft Windows XP x64
» Microsoft Windows 2000
» Mac OS X
» Mac OS 9
» Linux

Drivers are available at this page below:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=401496&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=3&submit.x=8&lang=en&cc=us

Note that there are no drivers for 98 and it won't be simple to get the printer to work with the 98.. I would recommend upgrading to 2000 or windows xp. if your computer is from 1998 it might be better to buy a new computer.

Todays printers don't work with 10 year old computers anymore.

linux would work on the computer for sure, and so would the printer but using linux is quite complex, you would need to get someone to install it for you and make it look as much like windows as possible, its a whole new system..

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

No internet connection trough win 98

lan and modem are two different things, you have to install modem drivers for windows 98 to work on windows 98. the drivers are mostly comes with modem. if you bought new driver then it might not work on 98, coz 98 is not supported by new manufactureres.

Age of computer

It's a fairly old system, that came installed with Windows 98. Considering it's 2008....yes I would say it's an old computer. That doesn't mean it won't work.
It will be hard to find adapters to work with that system since Microsoft discontinued Windows 98 a few years ago, and all the support for that OS.
You may want to make sure there is enough hard drive space, as well as RAM...and if you do have enough oomph, then format and install Windows XP Home or Pro.

Windows 98 changing from dialup to high speed

You can do this, but I would not recommend it. Windows 98 is very susceptible to malware. You can get things just by going to the wrong website. These are called drive by downloads. It will get very slow from all of the malware running on the system very fast.

Look into downloading a Linux distribution like Ubuntu, or PCLinuxOS. You will be able to find a linux distro that will fit on your old computer and be very secure. Look at Distrowatch for many more options.

It is not possible to use Windows 98 on the Internet and remain secure. If you post the model/serial number of the compaq computer, or its stats then we could tell you if you can upgrade it to XP or Windows 2000, but this may not be practical on older equipment.
