Hello

could you be a bit more specific about what your looking for Locator function? Has your laptop been stolen and your trying to locate it somehow or what is this about?

  • lovelyliones May 12, 2010

yes my laptop has been stolen

  • Ekse May 12, 2010

Send me the brand and model of the laptop. check your receipt AT&T should be able to block the card, and possibly black list the device from being used wirelessly online.

But without the exact brand and model I can't say if this device has a locator / GPS at all. Probably does not have such a thing, but please post the model.

My acer aspire 5560 will not connect to the wifi/ phone hotspot anymore. Only a couple days ago did this start to happen, I've already tried the function key to turn it on/off, but it still can't...

The driver for the wireless card may be corrupt or out of date. Try downloading the latest driver HERE. Just run the setup and click Next throughout the installation. Be sure to reboot your PC afterwards.

Blew a fuse that operates radio, clock and all the electronics adapters, need to know which fuse works these?

My access to Suzuki diagrams does not indicate the functions of the fuses, it only gives me what they look like. Best thing to do is to have a meter to test the fuses and relays and whichever one tests bad, take that to the auto parts store to match it up. Most auto parts store will order you the correct fuse/relay if they do not have it in stock.

Water won't drain

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

As the water did not drain completely then check the drain hose & drain pump filter located inside the front bottom access panel for any clogs/obstructions, if you have already cleaned these parts and the unit will not work then replacing the drain pump is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I forget my password to unlock my wd smartware

There is no way to unlock the software or hard drive without the password. All you can do is format the drive and erase the data to get functionality of the drive back. If you have access to the SmartWare software, but not the hard drive, you still have to erase the data and can use the software to do so. Here are some instructions:

1. Well, if you have the WD SmartWare already installed you are in luck as there is Erase function built onto WD SmartWare software. There are 2 ways. #2 or #3.
2a. Click to Settings Tab on 4th right.
2b. Click to Set Up Drive
2c. Click Erase Drive and follow the instruction.
3a. Plug in the drive and you will be prompted to type in password.
3b. Type in 5 "wrong/bad" password
3c. This will trigger Too Many Attempts and asked to accept data loss and get drive back.

Dell axim x51 will connect to to wifi hotspot i need detailed instructions to get it to work

Hi, follow the steps found in your owners manual. That can be downloaded at this link.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/aximx51/en/om/om_en.pdf

Using Wi-Fi (802.11b)
Wi-Fi provides your device access to WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network.)
Short for wireless fidelity, Wi-Fi refers to any type of 802.11 network,
whether 802.11b, 802.11a, or dual-band. Wi-Fi certified products from
different manufacturers are interoperable.
NOTE: Mid and High configurations of the Axim have Wi-Fi 802.11b built in and the
drivers factory installed. For a Low configuration device, you must purchase the
802.11b SD card, insert it in your device, and load the drivers.
NOTE: The default Wireless Networking Client utility for your device is the
Dell WLAN utility. The following configuration steps are for the Dell WLAN utility.
Configure wireless networking for your device in one of the following
scenarios:
• Network Card is set up
• Wireless Network is broadcasting SSID
• Wireless Network is not broadcasting SSID
If the Network Card is Set Up
Normally the internal wireless card is already set up. There are times when
you must choose the network card. On the Axim X51/X51v configurations
that have built-in wireless, the network card is associated with the enabled
wireless. If wireless is not enabled or you are using a socket card for
wireless connection, then choose the network card:
1 Tap Start → Settings → Connections.
2 Tap Network Cards.
3 Choose either Internet or Work from the menu.
4 Choose the network card to connect to the network. For the
Axim X51/X51v with built-in wireless, choose Dell Axim X51/X51v
WLAN Wireless Adapter.
5 Choose whether the network card assigns an IP address or receives an
IP address automatically.
6 Enter the Server IP addresses if required and tap OK.
If the Wireless Network is Broadcasting SSID
1 Press the wireless button to enable wireless capability. The green LED
in the right top corner of the device indicates that the wireless
is functional.
2 Tap Start → Settings → Connections.
3 To add, edit, or delete a profile, select the corresponding action and
tap Network Cards.
4 In the Configure Wireless Networks window, select one of the available
network names and tap OK.

If the Wireless Network is Not Broadcasting SSID
The Configure Wireless Networks window only shows wireless networks
that broadcast a Network Name (SSID) and those that have been added.
Add the network if it is not listed. Contact your network administrator for
the following information:
• SSID (network name)
• Authentication
• Data Encryption
• Keys (if the key is not provided automatically)
• Log in if necessary
To configure the wireless network:
1 From the Configure Wireless Networks window, tap Add New.
2 Provide the Network Name (SSID).
3 Select either Internet or Work in the Connects To box.
• Selecting Internet allows you to connect to your network but you
will have to manually start a VPN connection, if needed.
• Selecting Work automatically starts a VPN connection any time
you connect to the network.
• If you are having trouble connecting to your network, change the
Connects To box to Internet.
4 Tap the Network Key tab.
5 Enter the Authentication and Data Encryption information. If a key is
required, enter the network key.
6 Select the 802.1x tab.
7 The Authentication and Data Encryption chosen on the previous
screen determines whether this screen is available. If available choose
the EAP type used on the network.
8 Tap OK.
9 If more than one network is listed, tap and hold the stylus on the
network name you want to connect to. A pop-up menu appears.
Tap Connect. After a few seconds you should see Connected next to
the wireless network you selected.
Thank you,
lee

File handling in visual basic 6.0

Following are a handful things u have to know about VB file handling

for more details...go to http://www.5starsupport.com/info/vb.htm

File Handling (Generic)

While VB is working on a better approach (FileSystemObject), the built-in file handling statements are still the only way to access data other than through the VB database capabilities. Your skills in this area can make or break your ability to work with various formats. The OPEN/CLOSE statements are critical to success, but the LOF, EOF, and LEN functions are used even more often! It's also a given that you'll use the DIR function regularly.
Dir - Returns a filename that matches a pattern
temp$ = Dir ("*.*")
CurDir - Returns the current directory
temp$ = CurDir
MkDir - Creates a directory
mkdir ( "newdirectoryname" )
ChDir - Changes the current directory to a new location
chdir ( "newdirectoryname" )
ChDrive - Changes the current drive
ChDirve "A"
RmDir - Removes the indicated directory
rmdir ( "directoryname" )
Freefile - Returns an unused file handle
i = freefile
Open - Opens a file for access, locking it from other applications
open "filename" for input as #1
Close - Closes a file so that other applications may access it
close #1
LOF - Returns the length of a file in bytes
i = lof ( #1 )
EOF - Returns a boolean value to indicate if the end of a file has been reached
statusvariable = eof ( #1 )
Name As - Renames a file
name "filename1" as "filename2"
Kill - Deletes a file
kill "filename"
Fileattr - Returns attribute information about a file
i = int ( tempvariable )
GetAttr - Returns attributes of a file or directory
i = GetAttr("c:\windows\temp")
SetAttr - Sets the attributes of a file
SetAttr pathname, vbHidden
Reset - Closes all disk files opened by the OPEN statement
Reset
FileDateTime - Returns data file was created or last edited
FileDateTime ( filename )
FileLen - Returns length of file in bytes
FileLen ( filename )
FileCopy - Copies a file to a new name
FileCopy sourcefile, destinationfile
Lock - Controls access to a part or all of a file opened by OPEN
Lock #1
UnLock - Restores access to a part or all of a file opended by OPEN
UnLock #1
Width # - Set the output line width used by the OPEN statement
Width #2, 80
File Handling - ASCII-specific

While VB is working on a better approach (FileSystemObject), the built-in file handling statements are still the only way to access data outside of a data base. Your skills in this area can make or break your ability to work with various formats. The OPEN/CLOSE statements are critical to success, but the LOF, EOF, and LEN functions are necessary to build useful code.
Line Input - Reads an entire line of ASCII text
line input #1, tempvariable$
Write - Puts data in a file, with separators for the data
write #1, tempvariable$
Print - Puts data in a file with no separators
print #1, tempvariable$
Spc - Used in a print statement to move a number of spaces
Print #2, var1; spc(15); var2
Tab - Used in a print statement to move to TAB locations
Print #2, var1; Tab(20); var2
File Handling - Binary-specific

VB also support features which allow you to access a file on a byte-by-byte basis. The good thing about it is that you have more control, the bad thing is that you may have to write more code. Generally, a programmer will use the option (ASCII or Binary access) according to the least code he has to write. For binary access the Get/Put are equivalent to the Line Input and Print functions used in ASCII text file access. The big difference between the two is that binary access will read (Get) an exact number of bytes of data, and the reading can start at any byte within the file.
Get - Reads data from a file
get #1, anyvariable
Put - Puts data into a file
put #1, anyvariable
Seek - Moves the current pointer to a defined location in a file
seek #1, 26
Input
input #1, anyvariable
Loc - Returns current position with an open file
i = Loc(#2)
